Did you see this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdbx3iocdG4
I would like them to video the race start function and post it.

- Put the car into "D"
- Toggle ESP to ESP-Sport (will not work with ESP ON or OFF)
- Left foot on brake
- Turn the dial to "RS"
- Pull the right upshift paddle up and hold
- Floor the accelerator until the RPM hangs at around 3,500 RPM
- Release the brake

The "RS" function is not that impressive on the 63. I think it's mainly because the car's power is very manageable off the line (might make more sense on the SL65). I don't think it's anything you couldn't do yourself on this car w/out having to engage it. It also doesn't always seem to work every time you try it..not sure if there's an interval between launches that you need to wait for. Essentially you:
- Put the car into "D"
- Toggle ESP to ESP-Sport (will not work with ESP ON or OFF)
- Left foot on brake
- Turn the dial to "RS"
- Pull the right upshift paddle up and hold
- Floor the accelerator until the RPM hangs at around 3,500 RPM

You should really be able to bolt out. Since the car lacks a tq convertor, and allows this revving up it should really work well. The M6 with launch control is 1/2 second better than the US model. I would have thunk the 63 with the ability to rev to 3k would be deadly coming off the line. I do not think LC would work at all on the 65 or 600 the car already puts down too much tq for the diff and suspension to handle.

Hi Simon,
Yeah, if you could please, that'd be great. There's a lot of us who are unsure of the SL63.
Is the tranny that good?
How would you compare SL63 to SL55?

I'm not sure how well I can compare it to an SL65, but it's much improved over the SL55 in every way possible from looks to ergonomics, handling seems much more responsive. But the absolute BEST thing about this car is the tranny. Based on that alone, it's worth getting the car. It's that good. Power delivery is continuous, there's little to no latency or lag between shifts and you really feel like it's one continuous gear. At one point, my passenger got a little scared when I launched from 1-3 in one accelerated run in M mode!

Compared to the SL55, the SL63 does not have the grunt down low as expected. It's power band is more impressive mid and top end. And with 7 forward gears, it has a lot of top end. Power delivery is much smoother than the 55 and you don't get those abrupt and annoying surges (like someome is turning ON & OFF a power switch).

Although another good thing the SL63 has (from what Simon said) is the 7-Speed which offers a lot of top end speed.

Though have you driven SL63 030 yet, to ascertain perf diffces vs non-030 SL63, esp on public roads? Am not so sure a CLK BS w/its elderly gearbox and non-ABC-based chassis will be as interesting as an SL63 030 on mtn twisties roads (as opposed to smooth, dry, relatively flat tracks)....
And wt diffces btwn SL63 030 and CLK63BS are some ?350lbs....prob within margin of error, esp given SL's more advanced chassis/gearbox; and supposedly bespoke, latest-tech Pirellis.....and IIRC SL has WB/ht dimensions rather similar to a 997TT....I suspect CLK has longer WB....
Will be interested to see what are claimed (and/or SportAuto) NBR times for SL63 030 vs CLK63BS vs 997GT3...all on street tires....

Damn, I wish all this info would be out already. I want to get my choice ASAP, not wait a few months, lol.
I want to be one of the first SL63's here in the Valley (if I can like the torque)

That transmission is amazing , I so wish we could order one and drop it in my CLS

I drove one a couple weeks ago that my dealership had (was not for sale, corporate car of some sort), it feels almost like a CVT transmission, almost no dead time between shifts and it shifts rather soft (smooth), not hard like you would expect from such a fast upshift. Nice car, but handles nowhere close to the BS, like Simon stated two differents beasts all together.
