Not the first new 63 owner to want to switch to the 65. Apparently, the gadgets are wearing off soon... and its back to old-fashioned power.

fast is fast, every new car I get I like to be faster than the previous one. The 63 was an interim car.

I have owned 55's, 600's, a 63, and soon a 65. I also liked them in the same order, the 55 the least and the 63 the best.

I asked my local dealer and this is his reply:

I appreciate the info. I will order one and give him $6,000 off a factory order. My first unit is being built in July for LATE August delivery.

I'm sorry but I think you've got to be nuts to pay even $10K off the already inflated $190K+ MSRP. You're in Porsche GT2 territory and no matter how potent the SL65 is, even the SL65 Black, neither car will perform as well as the GT2 but both will depreciate faster than a 60's-era British sports car overheats. If you're so hell-bent on the SL65, why not buy a year-old one with low miles for about a $70K savings? You can use that $70K to buy yourself a Z06 so you can keep your mileage down on both cars.

because a GT2 is not a convertable, impossible to get, god only knows how much over invoice they will want, and I drove the turbo Porsche and though it was a POS.

furthermore, how am I going to find a year old 2009 with the new body style when they are only two weeks old.

I agree - I was thinking of trading my SL65 on a Porsche Turbo and after a couple of test drives decided against it. Not only different feel on the power but the quality seemed several notches below the SL.

Yeah, the SL65 Black will be a fixed hardtop with rollcage.

I have a stretch of road in Florida that I do testing on, Porsche turbo got up to a wopping 123mph on the stretch, SL65 was at 143 and still climbing.

As far as a highway car at speeds above 110mph that turbo six falls on its face, the SL65 will demolish a turbo porsche on the highway.

Should have tried a Tiptronic turbo. Put the 2 on a road with curves and the turbo will destroy the SL65. Straight line the SL65 wins, no doubt, but the turbo is far from a "POS"...LOL

i dont know about anyone else, but there are hardly any "roads with curves" where i live. all i care about is my daily driving experience and who i can play with on my way.

Had an '07 997TT Tip/PCCB Coupe and '07 SL65 back in Summ06; drove each about 2K mis and did numerous back-to-backs in straight-line and mtn twisties; and used each for routine daily commuting....

Would argue 997TT is a POS, esp given its weak perf engineering, despite its archaic daily-use issues (puny fuel tank/range; poor ground clearance; no BT/iPod; no trunk).....glaring turbo lag; one of world's most effeminate exhaust notes; poorly sorted PASM on bumpy stretches of twisties....and PCCB brake pedal feel is arguably best on planet in dry....but scarily inept in many wet conds....

Not clear that, w/equally capable drivers, 997TT is materially faster than SL63 030 (or '09 SL65) in twisties.....IIRC, NBR times (per SportAuto) of 997TT Coupe (not heavier, softer Cab) and CY02 SL55 are almost within margin of error....

so-cal is gods country of twisting canyon roads. We have the worlds finest roads. Malibu, Ventura, OC San Diego, everywhere has at least 2-3 roads that would make most people die!

Try lockwood valley from Ojai to Gorman. An absolutely amazing stretch of road with everything you could imagine!

Talking I LIVE IN MALIBU AND IS A REAL B!TCH HAVING TO DRIVE AMAZING CANYONS EVERY DAY!

I am forced to have to drive that damn twisty PCH along the Pacific Ocean or amazing canyon roads every single day! It is such a burden with only 604HP....

Once I drove my SL65, 427 Cobra, Dino Spyder just a little bit over the posted speed limit in those canyons but I swear that was only by mistake and probably will never happen again!..... :-) If it does ever happen again it will only be on a day that ends with the letter "Y"I promise!

Cited for 88MPH in Malibu Canyon in my SL55, the cop said he clocked me... Had he clocked me a few minutes earlier I would still be wearing stripes and carrying a large steel ball/chain...

Recently a friend tossed me the keys to his modified FORD GT and asked me to take him out and show him what his car can do in the canyons...(being a professional stunt driver does have a few perks)

About a hour later and after both Malibu and Corral Canyons he was done screaming and he could release his grip on the panic bar...

Luckily for his wife he has a maid that will wash his soiled shorts..

You know what they say...

"Life is a BEACH"

These people are a joke. They take great pics and the cars look awesome, but their prices are insane. As an example, you can see they are asking $155k for an '07 SL600 (with renntech and wheels, granted), w/ 5k miles.

I saw at one point that they had a new '09 SL600 with the same (renntech/wheels), and they were asking $225k! they're just silly, it's entertaining.
