Spare Tire SL 55

what options are available for a spare tire for a 2005 SL 55. Dealer says the spare for a SL500/550 will not fit over the caliber for the 55. What's everybody doing for a spare tire?

I just bought some 20in rims so i figured i had to buy a spare cause I live the the NJ/NY area where the chances are high of hitting a pot hole. I bought the SL55 spare from the dealer which I believe it was $750. You have to specifically ask for the optional SL55 spare .. its an 18 inch inflatable spare. SL500 spare will not fit... its 17inch.

I travel without a spare, figuring that between a portable air compressor and a cell phone, I'm covered. 28,000 mile so far and haven't had to use either.

Dumb question, but where the hell do you put a spare tire? If you could wedge it in the back, you wouldn't have room for anything, not to mention it would stink of rubber.

if you look at the bottom of the trunk floor ,down to the metal, you ll see a circular shape where a tire can go. remember its an inflatable spare not a full size donut like you might think. it very compact. and no it doesn't smell like rubber lol

Hi,

I am also looking for a spare that will fit under the third row seat of my E63 Estate. Do you still happen to have the invoice from your dealer? It would be most helpful if there is a part number for the SL55 spare. Many thanks in advance.

Thats was my plan. Then I got a nail in Yosemite 2 weeks ago. The goo was awful, there is no cell service so I had use a very nice rangers phone at the gate - and no 285/35/18s that I could find within 100 miles!!!!

SL 55 Spare tire

Ordered the tire and it works great. Also had to get a different mounting bracket, but dealer got that for me , too.

Thanks again for your help.

Fitting the spare is not the problem, but if you are travelling and have luggage what do you do when you put the spare on the car and the wheel/tire you took off doesn't fit in the spare tire well???

Not sure I never had to use it "knock on wood" but it inflates to almost a full tire so im sure it gives enough support to get you home. Do you really want to be speeding on any spare?
