How to remove shifter knob on 06 SL65?

I bought a 06 SL65 and replaced the Burl Walnut wood with carbon fiber.

The only step left is the shifter knob.

It has keyless go and I can not find any instructions on how to remove the knob, anyone know?

thanks

put on rubber gloves, or latex. this makes it a firm grip and you wont slip. put in in straight up position, and pull straight up, hard and quick

Boot

Thanks, How do you get the rubber boot off? Do you have to take the whole console apart?

It just snaps on. Just pull on the leather until it comes off, then pull the leather over the shift knob. This reveals the locking ring. Rotate counter clockwise (if I remember correctly) maybe half turn. Then pull straight up

its all meant to unscrew and up clip, but to pull it off you just rip and it comes apart, to put it back togather make sure the tabs are all clipped back in, the boot, is not on some cars, the top collar ring does unscrew like wolfman says, the boot is then compressed on the knob with another ring

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the input. I will attempt this in a few weeks, just wanted to get prepared. Herd it could be tricky with the two pins breaking off on the push start button. I'll let you know how it goes.

It's super easy. Just never twist the shift knob. Just pull and push to re-insert.

Only tricky part is prying off the plastic piece in between the the leather boot and the shift knob. Get something that's very thin to help pry it off.
