Glove compartment is stuck

Help please! I just bought a 2003 SL55 and I can't get the glove compartment open. I have made sure that the lock-down mode is off, I can hear the latch mechanism clicking and releasing but it won't budge.

The dealer said he remembers it opening when they first got it but doesn't know what's wrong now. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Mine gets stuck all the time. Hold the button in and pull down on the door to see if you can open it. It is annoying.

Mine was fixed by the dealer. It worked for a while, but it happened again. I don't always think about it when I bring it in for service.

The car isn't under warranty which is why I thought I'd ask if I could fix myself. I feel like I shouldn't try to muscle it...maybe I'll just drop by the dealership and see if they'll take a look out of the kindness of their hearts LOL. Wish me luck.

I appreciate the responses!

I had the same problem (2004 SL 55 AMG). Dealer fixed it (out of warranty, but I don't remember how much I paid at the moment). The problem was some cable hooked to the latch mechanism needed "adjusting".

Very common with the r230 chassis. Simple cable adjustment will fix it.

Long flat screw driver and a flash light. Pop the cover off the right side of the glove box. Look in side and you can see the top portion of a small white gear. Use the screw driver to turn the gear, pushing up over the top with the screw driver. A couple of turns should have it adjusted properly.

Good luck.

Push the button and chop the door with the heel of your other hand. It will open and close easily just after doing that. Problem will return the next day.

Did you buy the car that was at Gordon's Motorsports?
