"The extra oomph comes courtesy of new, larger turbochargers"

bull****. A lot of people (vadim, jason) told me its absolutely and technically impossible to fit anything bigger than a K24 in a SL65.

Bro you have to read slower or something.....They say & I
AMG expects the car to cover the 0-to-62-mph sprint in 3.9 seconds, although we’ve gotten 3.8 out of an SL65. Getting the SL65 Black Series to hook up for a quick launch will likely be next to impossible, as it is in the regular SL65.
I have no doubt they'll get better than 3.9 0-60 as C&D tested a RENNtech SL600 and got 3.3 seconds 0-60
I like this part...

The extra oomph comes courtesy of new, larger turbochargers, revised intake ducting, and a new exhaust system. There’s also a new intercooler that AMG says reduces intake charge temperatures by 30 percent, and an upgraded cooling system to keep the engine from melting itself. Mercedes says the engine is detuned from 885.

Seriously, did you look at the under the hood pictures? They have made some changes to the SL65.

If they say they changes the turbos, I bet they changed the turbos.

Brabus say otherwise.

I love your enthusiasm for the V12tt bro. This is an all new car, and its quite possible that they are indeed different turbo chargers, but I would suspect, which is normal for benz, that they are modifying the k24's a bit with either a larger compressor or turbine wheel and or housing. Brabus does modify the stock turbos, along with adding a larger cast exhaust manifold. There are MANY stock variants of the K24 turbos with different sized compressors and turbines, all within the stock "k24" housings. I for one have never been one to take Mercedes propaganda at face value. I think the zero to 60 is a lame measurement with cars at this power level, its so traction and esp dependent, the car just freaks out if you slam the pedal with full electronics engaged.

From what I heard - from them, when I was at Brabus HQ in Bottrop - is that they install bigger, in-house designed turbo chargers on the SV12 (that's the 730hp one) engine.

On other tuning kits they may do different things, but on their masterpiece it's definitely bigger turbo's.

I Want your statement to be true, especially if you were lucky enough to visit the brabus facilities in bottrop...

but according to the following pics , I don't see anything that is greatly bigger than the stock turbos so I continue on my theory.

Since the V12TT turbos have the pârticularity to have the exhaust housing cast together with the exhaust manifold , Brabus decided to cast new ones, to :

- make the exhaust gas flow better

- to make the kompressor wheel turn faster and earlier in rpm.

combined with the 6.3 displacement and other goodies, It's greatly enough to push 730 hp with the stock compressors.

The outer dimensions might be similar, but it is a different turbo charger with better flow and optimised compression (bigger innards, bigger turbine perhaps, therefore bigger?). And, as they said themselves (FWIW), designed in-house and not bought off the shelf at a Borg-Warner type company.

I'm only quoting the Brabus story I was told by the Brabus press contact.

BTW, are your pictures of the SV12 engine? Or another (T12, T13)?

I think it's pretty safe to say the SL Black Series has big new turbo's.

Sorry but they did change the turbos. There is no way to increase hp and not torque any other way but to mess with the turbos. They even say it is only 12% bigger which is what I would bet is similar in size to the increase brabus does. I know the turbos are kkk brnad but does any one even know for sure it is a k24 and not another k model? I am yet to see a tuner other then brabus take out the stock turbos and mess with them. I am sure vadim was correct in not being able to get a bigger turbo ot at least not as big as he needed for the 1000hp they are going for. I bet he would agree you could pull the stock manifolds and mess with the insides for the 60-70hp gain amg is giving us. It will be nice to see but I heard 225k first then 320k so what is the price going to be? Also if the slr lost 100-150k how much will this car lose in value? Even the clk63 bs is down from msrp. The one thing mb needs to make better is the resale. I for one think this sl65 bs is great but I will just wait to get one used 1yr after they come out for 60% of the cost new. I also wondering which car is going to hold better between the slr and sl65 bs? I knwo the slr is the more exotic car but if the sl65 beats it in performance and has less numbers...........who knows but at least with the sl65 bs a nice ecu tune and you will have 600whp very easy and being 500lbs lighter then the normal sl65 should make it a 10.00 sec car very easy.

Lag should be a non issue. My car spools by 2500 and seems to be in full boost by 3000. The down side to that is I run out of steam up top.

a few years back if a person said he was running out of steam up top in a v12 he would be admitted to hospital nothing has more up top then v12! its high way (auto ban missile) hehe

Now in your case i am not sure, but maybe the forces higher up are not as great as low mid range, but am guessing they are still great non the less :P, or am i wrong?

I have K24 with 20 G wheels and the change is brutal in power, teh car is stock 420 HP and I am in teh lower 700 HP range allready with those turbos, wonder what wheel the Sl65 has in it as I was thinking on installing a 18 G wheel which hs proved very good results on Porsche World with no need to upgrade the fuel System
