Just a quick thank you...

To the most amazing Mercedes owner I've had the pleasure of meeting. I work at Target currently, making a whopping $8.00 an hour and spending most of my days outside retrieving carts. One of the perks about this job is getting to be outside, the other is seeing the nice collection of cars, from B8 S4's and RS4's to highly customized E46 M3's. Well today I saw the best one of them all, and honestly made an otherwise hellish job amazing. Today I saw the prettiest SL65 AMG pull into a parking spot at the back corner of the lot while I was outside so I waited for the owner to get a little closer and then struck up a conversation, just small talk, and my Gran Turismo 4 knowledge of one of the beastliest cars ever, in my opinion. Well the owner tells me if I have some time he'd go run into the store and pick some stuff up and then take me for a ride, I obviously hurried my butt inside and told my manager I was going on my break. So we drive maybe a block or two and he pulls over and tells me it's my turn to drive, something which I am still in shock about. He let me, a total stranger, drive his $180k Mercedes-Benz, is this really happening? I ended up getting to drive the car for about 30 minutes, during which I'm pretty sure I never got more than 50% of the way onto the throttle, and the car took off every single time! What an amazing machine. Anyways, on with some pictures of the car and me in it!

If the owner of this car is on the board, I would like to thank you for making my day truly amazing, you are a very kind person. Happy motoring.

Creating future Mercedes owners one at a time! Hope you get one of your own some day.

A ride in my college girlfriend's dad's SL450 (1980) started my lust. 28 years later I've got my first SL.

Real Cars
That's a cool experience you have, but if all us 65 owners aren't quick to let strangers drive their car, please understand it's nothing personal. When I was younger I was around a few too many kids who'd easily put a car like this into a wall that it has scarred me somewhat ... although I wouldn't mind taking someone for a ride.

I definitely understand it's nothing personal, most people wouldn't let some stranger drive their $50k car, so this guy was just giving a fellow car lover the opportunity of a lifetime. If I had felt like I was a little more capable driver I would have driven like so, however with the exception of a few short bursts of straight-line speed I kept the car moving much like the luxury car it is.

I'm hoping to maybe find a Mercedes meet sometime here in Denver, I would love to just be around these cars, they are truly something else.

Very cool owner... I've given strangers (fellow enthusiasts) rides in different vehicles but let them drive...? I'm not that cool I guess

Why not? I usually offer most people to go for a drive and see what they think, but almost everyone declines usually.

Half the fun of having cool cars is sharing the passion.

I can't tell you how many people/kids, etc. I have given rides to, or let drive. It should be part of being an enthusiast...... but allot of the time it isn't.
