I brought in the SL65 to mercedes because the car felt powerless, so needed a checkup... They said they are fixing the problem but also told me that I need new brakes. The price they want to charge is $5300. I told them to wait and I will get back to them. IMO $5300 is too much, what should it cost?

Front brakes only, with rotors, for the S65 was around $3,000 two years ago. (I asked when I bought the car.) You have the same composite rotors and 8-pad front axle, so I would expect a similar bill, and parts haven't gotten any cheaper in two years. Because of the Sensomatic brakes, I would expect it to be a bit higher yet because of the extra labor involved in preventing the system from slicing off a finger.
If you also need rear brakes, with rotors, that quote is sadly reasonable. If it's front only, it sounds high. See if they're doing both axles. You don't mention your mileage, but normally you can get two front rotor's worth of life from the rear.
Bill Ussery Mercedes is 10% more expensive than MB of Ft Lauderdale and 20% more expensive than MB of Naples, plus, they have the worst service department. I speak from personal experience.
all MB dealerships will try to sell you the parts themselves (as they make money on the parts as well). I think you will have a tough time trying to buy the parts separately and then installed by a dealer but it is worth a try.

I think you will have a tough time buying the parts separately period. If you find a non-dealer source for those rotors, I'd like to know.
Call Duval Mercedes in Gainesville at 1-800-718-9761. Tell the parts man that you are a member of the mercedes club and you want the discounted parts price. He will sell you most parts for 20% of of true list not the bogus list that other dealers make up. Since you are in FL you will have to pay tax in addition to shipping - still a bargain since many dealers inflate list prices by 25% or more.
