Keyless Go key card question

Hi there everyone. I am new to the forum and just bought my first MB...an 2003 sl55. I received two key cards and a key. With one of the key cards I am able to open the car, turn it on with the push start button, etc. But the other one doesn't do anything.

Any idea on this? Could it be the battery in it that is dead? Can the batteries be replaced? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I think you will find that it's dead batteries (there are two in each credit card style key). You can pick up new ones for around $5 each from Radio Shack, Walmart etc. It's a standard battery and if you look on the backside of the card, you will notice a oval cover; pop this off with a small screwdriver and the batteries will be vissible. The model number is printed on the battery.
It'll cost you around $10 to find out if it's the batteries; if this doesn't work, the key might be dead because of it being stored too close to other magnetic / electronic devices. never keep the two keys close to each other.
Remember, the keys are unique and will set the drivers seat position, mirrors etc, relative to the one that opened the door.
Good luck,
Paul

I agree. It's probably the battery.

I have a similar problem. Just bought the same car but I only got one key. Is it an expensive process to purchase two new cards and then program them?

Yes it is MOR, to test the key just press the button and see if the LED illuminates

I bought a new 2008 SL550 in January, and it did not come with any key cards that I know of did they quit using them with the newer SL's?
