Exhaust

I have a 2004 SL55 and want a little deeper exhaust note. I do no want to pay $3-4,000 for a rear exhaust. Any ideas? I heard taking out the resonator causes a drone at cruising speeds, which i do not want...

Thanks

Dan

I have taken off my resonator with no drone issue at all. In fact, it's still not enough exhaust note IMO.

I ran without resonators, no drone at all. It was stock quiet at cruising speeds which makes me wonder why they are there in the first place

Any pic's of the SL w/o the resonators?.
Did you bought the kit from evosport.com or just went to your local muffler shop to delete the resonator?

No pic, but you can go to your local muffler shop to put straight pipes in place. I paid $100.00, I think.

I think the X-pipe kit from evosport only applies to the E55(W211) only. Our resonators are in a diffrent location than theirs (stock).

No CEL issue at all. There is no power difference, just some what of a deeper sound when getting on the throttle. As far as emissions are concerned I believe there is no issue there at all.

I will be posting soon a video clip of the "after" current exhaust set up I have on my SL55 (Long Tube Headers, Primary Cat Delete, Secondary Cat Delete, Custom X-Pipes, 3" piping, stock exhaust muffler. I love the sound, and must admit its not for everyone.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your input and humor... Being a Harley owner myself i think i will stay stock for a while untill i go with a complete exhaust. More to do before then though... Do any of you have the pulley done? Much of a difference?

Also, anything you guys have done on the heat soaking issue other than a Johnson (Done)?

I live in AZ and it sucks when i go for the power a second time and i get zip, zilch, zero...

Thnaks

Dan

Just a thought but if you are looking for something different for your SL55, give Billy Boat Exhaust a look... I had B&B PRT's ( mid level performance of the 3 choices for Vettes ) on both my C5 coupe and Z06 and that exhaust was perfect and reasonably priced... Nice, mellow, deep but noticeable idle, smooth, deep on accel, low rumble when cruising but you could still have a conversation or hear the stereo, and absolutely roared at WOT... Popped on decel which some people like, some don't... NO resonation inside the cabin whatsoever at any RPM... They make a system for the SL55/SL500 with nice tips, all stainless... There's a sound clip too on the website if I remember right... It's a very nice exhaust sound and not very many of them out there... IMHO, it fits right in there between stock AMG and some over the top aftermarket systems...

Oh, and if you need any more incentive, I'd be interested in buying your stock AMG mufflers and tips for my E500 if the price is reasonable... If B&B made a system for my E500 W211, I'd already have it on my car...

Thanks

I called Billy Boat - they said they did not know if the SL500 exhasut would fit and didnt seem to give a sh#$ to assit me. Since they are local i will drive down there and see them in person.

Thanks for the offer on the stock exhaust but, i will keep them in case i sell the car.

Thanks for the info...

No problem and it turned out that I went another route for exhaust. I really liked the B&B PRT's on my 2 Vettes. Definately worth checking out other than the lack of concern by some of their staff... They are a real popular exhaust in the Corvette community...
