SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: TOYO quality?!? Quits atT 209 m/h...

How old was it, you say..? I say, DOT1408. And 60 miles!
And that's supposed to be a "Y labeled" tire..!

WHAT A JOKE!

no tire can spin at those speeds without air cooling and stay in one piece. i am surprised that they allowed you to go that fast on the dyno...

few cars

You have two small rollers, that the wheels rest on in between, right..?
1. The rollers deform the tires, because of the smaller diameter (creates heat).
2. The weight distribution between two rollers, creates less traction, so not seldom, you also need to put some weight on the back of the car to weigh it down (creates heat).
3. On top of that, the smaller rollers themselves create more heat, because of their small diameter.
So that you guys need to put some water on to there, or whatever to cool them down, I fully understand..!
Our dynos on the other hand, only have one BIG roller, that the car is strapped "against", so to speak.
1. That creates natural weight on to there.
2. Since the diameter is so big on the roller, the tire keeps its normal form.
3. Because of the bigger diameter, cooler roller itself.
Everyone can surely understand, why there is HUUGE different between the two dynos!
And, even if ALL of the above is inaccurate, then listen to this;
Last march we dynoed my car with WINTER TIRES (255's) on. Not Toyo, but Nokian.
We couldn't get a reading because of the bad traction, of course.
BUT, on those tires (with a 210 km/h or 130 m/h LIMIT) we went JUST AS FAST..! Several times!
And that, without having the winter tires breaking apart!!!
While the TOYOS lasted 1-2 seconds up there..!!!!

And they're suppose to have a "Y-limit" label..?!?!
Hows that for TOYO-quality..?!

At least not here. Here's Y the fastest label.
Here are the different ratings:
Speeds in KM/H
H 210
V 240
W 270
Y 300
Z over 240 (very strange rating, I must say, but it's an old one..!)
Y means 300 (or 186 m/h), yes!
But for a tire to be called Y, means rigorous tests and BIG marginals!
And that means 300 for a looong time too.
So a "Y tire" can EASILY take 336 km/h as well...
And if you don't believe that there are BIG MARGINALS, then try to explain how the winter tire with rating H took the same beating without problems..!
On top of that, 336 at the clock don't mean 336 real speed, you know!
Probably more like 320, since there's marginals even there...
