I found this list of weight-reducing tips and tricks for improved drag-racing performance, most of which make switching to lightweight wheels seem downright sensible.

http://www.dragstuff.com/techarticle...reduction.html

I wasn't able to find any resources that I considered reputable that could help me understand how to quantify the effect of lighter weight rims on 1/4 mile times, but am sure that there must be some effect.

I wish you continued success.

Whatever octane tune you get, don't ever put a lesser octane in it, but you can put a higher octane in it within reason without problems.
I spoke to Cory at Kleemann. There are only two tunes they offer: #1 a regular tune set for 91 octane gas and #2 a tune specifically made for 100 octane gas (and only recommended for full time use with 100 octane).

Wow, I finally got my tcu out this morning, my both arms and shoulders are all tired up now. Getting out the tcu is just an hassle. Took me like an hour.
IWell, t is on the way to Cory now and let see if it is a real deal for this tuning special. I have been waiting for some change since I get a little used to the power of 600 for two years. Time for her to step up. Will post up some result and dyno graph soon.....

Per my conversation with Cory, they found no significant difference between 91 octane and 93 octane to allow more aggressive boost or ignition maps. The ECU is adaptive and will always run as much boost and ignition as it can based on ambient conditions (temp, humidity, etc.). That is why they do not have separate 91 and 93 octane tunes. The 100 octane gas with a much different density and burn characteristics would allow a significant change in boost or ignition maps.

Not sure why there are two different messages...

Seems odd it there would be no difference. Out here in Cali we definitely make less power stock with our 91 than the East Coasts guys and their 93. It says on the gas cap minimum 95RON which is what 91AKI equates to and recommended is 97/98/99 RON which is 93AKI. I'd say we're losing about 10hp, but that's just off the top of my head.

I'm a simple man so I'll put it simply- Cali gas is pig swill.

I agree, we are a master distributor for APR software for VW AUDI AND Pcars, and they give us different tunes and different power numbers to quote customers for 91, 93, and 100. Not try to compare teh two companies but most vw and audi are forced inducted motors and Porsche obviously has their turbo cars.

But unless I'm mistaken Kleemann has been sending us ECU's back with 93 octane tunes.

Cory can you step in here and help get to the bottom of this?

Carl:

You crack me up!

Over here on the East Coast we used to be able to get Ultra 94 octane at every Sunoco station... they stopped that as most states outlawed the octane boosting additive in the Ultra 94 because it was dangerous if it ever got into the water supply...

Yeah I remember good old 94. lol, I always wondered why i couldn't get it anymore.

I have 100 octane almost readily available in many spots within a 20 miles radius of my home

The closest 100 octane racing gas at the pump is about 40 miles away from me. A couple of months back I did two full tanks (literally pulled up on fumes each time) in two weeks at $400+ dollars. I realized that was spending more to feed my car than my g/f...

+3 when I spoke w/Cory & others w/Kleemann V12 tt tunes they all said they were set for 93 octane, Cory said ONLY if the customer can't get 93 regularly will they get 91 ECU tune....

I hate CA tree hugger ***** 91, I routinely spike it w/Torco from what I've heard it is basically 87 octane that's treated w/boosting agents like Toloune (sp) etc..to bump it up to massive 91

Also multiple tuners have told me it is horrible low-grade gas, giving sub-par perf esp on boosted app's..

You guys might think it's crazy, but if I was living in CA I'd install a pump at my house. Here in IL back in the day you could buy race gas by the 55 gallon drum. All you'd need then is a pump, and a safe place to store the drum. It's not cheap, but it's MUCH better than running that 91 **** water they serve you at your station.

Fortunately we still have good ol' 93 round these parts... not to mention plenty of stations that pump 100.

100 octane is the shiznit!, I'm able to switch programs via my cruise control switch in my new GTI. Ran the 100 at CMP in south carolina and man was it a blast. By my 5th session the back of the car and my tips were all black lol.

I finally got around to sending my SL65 chip to Kleemann for the $2500 special. After installation (Friday), I'll be certain to post some seat-of-pants feedback.

@ Cory
I’ve got an SL65-AMG and I’m very interested in your ECU tune. I know you have explained some of the details above in this thread, but would like to have a little more details on these to questions:
We have 99RON (octane) available allover in Denmark where I’m from, how will this affect the ECU tune?
As I’ve read in this forum Kleemann supposedly have a 100 octane tune – will this work or not?
I’ve read your commend on the TCU tune, that it is mostly recommended on SL600 – what exactly will I benefit from this or is it not necessary. (I’m not doing drag racing)?

One way or another, I think the software tune you need for 99RON is available but the TCU tune for the AMG 65 is not much of an upgrade. The 600's benefit it more because it allows it to shift like the AMG cars (much quicker) which means faster acceleration times.
