Request: Any pictures of SL55/500 with AMG Style IV wheels, 19"

If anyone has any other pictures of the R230 with dual spoke mulit-piece AMG Styling IV wheels in 19", can you please post them? I have been looking for a picture of a silver SL55 wearing the Style IVs that I saw on MBworld, but I havent been able to find it again. Thanks,

Johan in NJ

Arrow AMG 19" Styling IV vs. Brabus Monoblock VI

Here you go. Mine is the one with the 19" Brabus Monoblock VI rims. The other one is from a friend (who had his SL 55 lowered by MKB - mine is still standard).

Thank you those are some great picks. I can now see what you guys are talking about when you lower the car. Both wheels are great looking. I like the look of the bigger wheel than the look of lowering. Great cars both of them , enjoy

Question Ride Quality

How is the ride quality on the 19" rims?

No difference to standard 18-inch rims (my SL came with 18-inch rims and I'm currently driving 18-inch rims with winter tyres). Or at least very subtle.

The ABC suspension still blocks all shocks very effectively. But I have the feeling that steering is more precise.

The look of your wheels is so superior to the stock product they are almost a must have!

Does the lowering effect the suspension - is it harder? Do you have a switch to put it back to normal or is it lowered all the time?

Thanks

Great Pics . I may just revise my opinion as well...

Originally I really liked the AMG style IV like to have on the pics; actually still like them a bit better from the side, but I really like the look of the Brabus rears with the deeper dish look.

I guess it's on purpose that AMG staggers the wheels without making them look that way. The front vs. the rear rims usually look the same from the outside.

I do like the lowered look but am not interested to void any warranty and the 19" are are perfect compromise for a more aggressive stance while maintaining the ride quality.

Ronald, I assume that you can simply bolt on the wheels without any modifcations to the body or the fender lips. Can you confirm that?

Thanks,

Wolfman

The lowering doesn't affect the suspension. I'm lacking the technical vocabulary to explain in detail, butthe basic level of the car that gets electonically lowered (just like it lowers itself when you drive something like 70+ mph). Your car doesn't get softer, just because you use your Airmatic, does it?

You can even have this done at AMG in Affalterbach (well, just down to a certain level that is still in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz safety regulations). AMG doesn't call it lowering, but something like "height level optimization".

Ronald

Hi Wolfman,

There were minor modifications to accomodate enough room for the 19-inch rims inside the wheel arch (<- had to use my dictionary - may not make sense) together with a TÜV-inspection. No big deal.

Hi ronald, i really envy your info, my question to you is:

the F1 Safety car which is an SL55, has some differences with regular SL's:

larger 19in 5 spoke wheels
black fornt grill
front bodykit modifications
louder exhaust

are these mods available and how much is the total cost in addition to the cost of a normal ordered Sl55?

see this for reference:

There are even more modifications (I don't know them all, but here's what I know because I had a closer look at it in Affalterbach):
- 19-inch wheels (Styling III from the CL) with spacers (even though AMG officially denies using spacers)
- larger brakes
- different exhaust systems (the sound was individually tuned for every race track to sound best!)
- front bodykit
- recaro racing seat, covered with designo leather
- safety car steering wheel
- slip differential with extra cooling
- special flashlight indicators with extra cooling
- black front grill

I'm pretty sure that the engine was pepped up as well, but I do not have any proof and AMG denies it.

The only thing available for standard SL's is the safety car steering wheel (I'll post a picture of mine tomorrow).

I've asked AMG for the front bodykit, but it would be about 11.000 Euros + painting + intallation + tax since it would be an individual item.

You could get the rear flashlights too, but only linked to the BAS. Everything else doesn't make sense because the flashlights need 6 standard car batteries to run the cooling alone. Without it, you would melt your indicator covers instantly!

AMG is still working on an exhaust modification. Once available, I'll post detailled infos here.

Last year, AMG fitted the C32 from one of our board members with a modular seating system that allowed exchanging the standard seat with a racing seat in lless than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to use it on public roads - only on race tracks (no crash tests - the seat is part of the safety concept). But I'm not sure if AMG still installs race seats on demand (politics).

Any more questions?

Regards,
Ronald

WOW! Where do you get all this information from?

I would love to have everything apart from that flashlight of course

and also, I don't like the idea of having sports seats, and teh steering wheel I also prefer to be standard. but everything else seems to be very attractive to have.

and that exhaust, I just love the standard exhaust noise, but wanted it to be a bit louder than normal so people "know" that you have arrived. getting all this from AMG sounds best since it would be pathetic to get it form aftermarket tuners.
