SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Spark Plugs?
OE? Platinum? Iridium?
What is suggested service life on OE plugs? 60K miles?
How much time to change all 16?
Thanks.
Those little buggers are buried!
I have seen a lot of bad comments on platinums in the Mercedes. I have used platinums for many years in many different cars for long life, never seen any performance gains. Do the platinums mess up the twin spark system due to the higher resistance level of platinum to copper?
I just called Dealer and they want $15/each for new plugs. They said that they were installing platinum on everything and good for 100k miles? This story does not add up with technical manual.
I will pull a plug this weekend and see what is in there and what shape it is in.
I would appreciate your comments based on your experience.

This NGK plug is easily good for at least 100K miles versus Mercedes 60K miles recommendation.
All of the parts stores and the websites are saying NGK IFR5D-10.
Talked to NGK technical staff and they are confused because these plugs are different lengths and heat ratings. Sparkplug. com even has the wrong Denso plug for the SL55. Denso website recommends the IKH20 versus the sparkplug website IK16, again different lengths. http://www.globaldenso.com/PLUG/cros...ce/1034_1.html
I have to wrap gifts for Santa and will pull a plug this week sometime. I will let you know what I find.

Based on what I seen in the cross reference sheets by internet sites and autoparts stores, i would be carefull in following their recommendations.
bosch7422 about 4 bucks at the parts store MB list for same plug $17.
www.autohausaz.com carries them.Remove the coils ,use the 17mm boot tool to remove the plug boots and it is an easy change out takes about two hours.
pm for boot tool if you need one.
Platinum plugs either bosch or ngk7090 are fine. never use multi tip plugs. The M113 hates those.
