Just got my new 07 with 030 :)

I just got back from picking up my near new 2007 SL55 (3k miles). I've been driving a 2003 for 3.5 years and really liked it but I never liked the vinyl dash, door panels and center console. I also did not like the steering wheel but other than that I loved it.
I did not know about the designo package which addresses all these things plus more. My new car has the following options:

041 designo graphite
511 Charcoal Exclusive Leather
030 AMG performance Package
220 Parktronic
235 Designo Graphite edition
251 delimited top speed
396 Voice control
401 Active Ventilated seats
415 Panorama roof
614 Bi-Xenon headlights
619 Corner illumiating foglamps
881 Electronic trunk closer
889 Keyless go
the msrp was 160k

I will say that it seems like my 2003 is a tad quicker which seems odd since the 07 does have more hp. Any clue why?

Congratulations...

Nice upgrade, Mark! How many miles? (Was this one listed in the LA Times recently?)

Please post pictures when you get a chance! Enjoy...

Sounds like a cool car!

Your '03 may have bad some ECU work done before you bought it, or as these engines run in, they get a bit stronger. Sounds like the new one needs some miles!

Have fun and be safe!

Congrats, you'll enjoy the car and BTW, it does get faster. For the short time I was able to drive mine (crunched on New Year's Eve) with 12K on the speedo it seemed faster than my lightly modified 05 E55.

The car has just 3k miles. I'm not sure if it was in the LA times but I did get it from Down Town LA motors.

The 07's have the upgraded 80mm throttle boddy... it should move a little better with break in... the adaptive tranny will assist.

does either the designo or V12 packages on the SL address those issues on the 03-06 models like the vinyl dash, door panels and center console?

Yes the Designo has leather everywhere and I believe the SL65 does as well.

2007 Väth SL65 AMG. 2007 BMW Alpina B5s. 2007 BMW M6.
Very nice looking car!
Nice with something else than silver or black.
And I just looove the 65 front!
Congrats!

PS. But since I'm a wood allergic (), I would have done something there...
Either change it to CF or aluminum, or just have it painted glossy black or the "car grey" or in aluminum paint.

Very nice love the front bumper. Looks like a 65 from the front.
I had an 04 then bought an 08 and the 08 feels quicker.
I test drove the 63 again yesterday and damn.....

I would have prefered the carbon interior but it was so close to perfect for me. I had silver and I will never own a black car so my choices were limited plus I love the color and it is very rare.
I really love the feel of the steering wheel. I have not measured it but the diameter seemes smaller than my 2003.

Funny you shoud mention that. My 03 seems a bit quicker so I used the dynoo program in my Iphone to test both cars. They were nearly identical.
I also drove the 63 and loved the trans but really missed the bottom end torque of the super charger.

I love the exterior color. It looks like a charcoal gray. That is a unique color as most of the Mercedes I have seen in town are either black, silver, white or red.

The ealy 2003 cars don't have the additional throttle body that regulates the supercharger. That means you have instant supercharger power in an early 2003 car since the sc is not regulated by the ecu to kick in later.

The TB was added because MBZ felt there was too much low end power causing transmission failures, etc.

Very interesting. This is the first I've heard of this.

Great looking SL55 that you have there!
As other's have said, the paint color is really striking and good looking.

Thanks,
I am very happy with it. If it had carbon trim it would have been perfect.

Nope that's not me. I paid 83k. I thought it was a bit high but given the
30k in options in probably was more than fair. It was 1/2 of MSRP with 3k miles.

Is there a simple way to revert to this? I kinda miss that punch at the bottom.
