I picked up my SL-55 last week at sticker price. The dealer had an extra allocation and moved me up on the list as I've bought a fair amount of cars over the past 10 years.
They had a Designo SL 55 that they had aquired from another dealer and was asking 159k. Before my paperwork was finished, someone had bought the car at the asking price. Appears that 25k over is still strong in Souther Calif.

I was just at my Mercedes dealer in Maryland Saturday to drop off my deposit for my SL55. He delivered one Friday at a $20K premium and said that the premium is dropping at $3k to $5k per month as supply picks up and guys dropp off the list. He told me that there were 13 guys in front of me but that he knows most of them will not take the plunge and put me at number four on the list.

The premium, as we speak, is $14K in Austin, TX. Several leasing companies in Austin can get the car for you for that much within 72 hours.

Yes: I know at least two non-MB owned leasing companies in Austin, TX who can get you a SL55 for $14K mark-up. Now, what options those cars would come with are another story, but I don't think it would make a huge difference, on the average.
