SL 55 Markups!?!?!?

Do you guys have any idea what the SL55 is now selling for retail? My SL 55 is coming in roughly two months, (End of March), and I am thinking about selling it.
Come Spring time, would $150k sound accurate. Maybe more? What do you guys think?

Sounds fair to me, although I have seen them sell for $175,000 as recently as a month ago. Mind you, this was at the dealership.

Is your contract transferrable? If so, PM me I know someone who can help you out

seems to be trading at a 20-25m premium over sticker. Supply is starting to meet demand

$160K was the "no haggle" price for one last week at Smythe in San Jose, CA.

They had 3 CL55s on the show room floor too. I think one was $130K but I did not really pay attention and I might be mistaken.

I was told by someone that supply is catching up with demand and alot of people on the lists are simply not taking delivery. 10-15K over is what I was told. Not sure if this is accurate but it sure would be nice. Check on autotrader.com there are many more there than I would have ever expected.

I think, realisticly that the market on these cars is $20 to $25 over window on a finance, but about $15k over on a lease.

Why less for a lease?

Is that typical that in demand Mercedes can be acquired for less on a lease? If so, why? Do most leases have an option to purchase where one could convert their leased vehicle before their lease term runs?

Bgomez ---I went on Auto trader and saw 2 cars both were priced well below market so I called the telephone numbers attached and 1 was disconnected and the other number someone answered and knew nothing about the add or anything. Makes me suspect about this web site and prices and availability.

Was at my local deler yesterday picking up my dual spoke rims. They just got in 2 SL55's and were willing to sell for about $7,000 - $15,000 over MSRP .

Mookie,
After posting I too called one of the numbers and got a recorder so I just hung up. The cars that are lowest price I bet may be Euro cars. Not sure just a hunch.

I was at my dealership this morning to pick up my car from service. They had an SL55 for only $55k over sticker. Additional dealer options were LoJack ($700) and Telfon coating ($1000). All together, they wanted $188k. Do you think they will get this price? I have seen Ferrari 360's for cheaper!

A history lesson, if I may...

CLK55s came available in North America in Sept, 2000 and there was a huge initial premium. List price was $68.4K but one dealer here in the San Francisco area had a "drive it home now" special for $99k in Dec. 2000.

In Feb. 2001, still 17th on my dealers list and being told "at least 8 more months," I bought mine from a private party. Net, options like the 100k warrantee etc., I figure buying a used car with 3k miles on it saved by $1k over a new one.

By late March 2001 one could find CLK55s at dealers at MSRP, in some places (not SF, but many in So. Calif., New Jersey, Wash. D.C. etc).

Keep in mind, the economy was still merely soft then, and consumer confidence was nowhere near as bad as today.

So applying this "history," by May/June we should be seeing new SL55s at MSRP from dealers in some places, and "deals" on slightly used ones from private parties.

I would tend to agree with u but the SL55 is not in the same catagory. We are talking 500hp, drop dead looks and a techo magic all in one. The pemium will be more like a Ferrari, were it never gets down to sticker.

People are trying to dump "grey market" SL55's. They imported, and converted them, and basically lost their a$$es, and are trying to recoup their costs.

Are they the cars on auto-trader, the prices seemed suspicious to me. Who wants a Euro conversion?

I don't expect SL55s to hold their premiums for much longer. Tops 6 months...it's already down to 25k for sale prices - a dealer can *ask* whatever they want, but most who are asking so much will only fnid buyers around the 20-25k mark. I expect that the premiums will drop, and come the end of summer, we should find it will be over.

...which has to be a good thing because however you finance the car, you end up paying more or losing on resale because of the premium the dealer charges. The SL55 will continue to be a great, groundbreaking car long after the dealers have directed their attention to some other flavour of the month.

What perhaps is a new risk for US buyers is the recent decline of the dollar against the Euro since SL pricing was fixed. It will be interesting to see how long Mercedes can keep their prices against a 15 - 20% devaluation of the currency. While the dealer and MB USA margins are "priced" in USD, most of the content will be priced in Euros.

and probably true for UK cars - the Euro at £1.50 is a lot less than MB dialed in - at the moment its made imports priced in Euro's as expensive as UK cars, and that's a first.

Prices will rise in the UK, and probably soon. Good news, I'd say.

All of the above
1800 MILE SL55 for $138K

Hi guys,

Just putting in my $.02.

I have seen SL55s in Autoweek at $150-165K. We have our first "used" one (1800 miles), fairly loaded, MSRP was $124.9K.
We are putting it on the used car lot for $138K. So yes, you could probably mark up your incoming SL55 $15-20K.
Good luck with it.

the dealer in hawaii, theodavies euro motors, charges a $50k premium for the sl55

does anyone else think this is a bit high? i wish there were more MB authorized dealers in hawaii sigh.

frustrating because im trying to trade in my 2003 sl500 for the sl55 (which i also bought from theodavies at msrp), but they wont even think of lowering the premium! $15k-$25k over sticker i will be willing to pay, but $50k is just a bit too much.

Why don't you just ship a used one from somewhere else in the US? It would be a lot cheaper
