I just purchased the one SPIKES was selling, in the classifieds. Should be here today or tomorrow. I'll try to pop it in this weekend.

I installed mine this afternoon. It's not quite as easy as the instructions make is look. I believe the pictures in the instructions must be from an SLK and not an SL. My wiring harness did not have any slack to it to operate. I had to completely remove the panel that goes from the door jamb all the way around to that cubby, just to get at the wires. I could not even tap into the ground wire that they suggest. I had to run my own wire and ground it to a different part of the chassis.
But, once in, it works as advertised. Pretty cool

I believe mine is also installed in the footwell area, but the new instructions are in the rear bin, does anyone know if you have to have an updated version to install there? I am having troubles with my lomo M1 and think that this may be the cause

The SmartTOP module is definitely not in your footwell. It should be installed in the passenger side cubby compartment. Well, underneath of that, anyway....

I bought a smart top box from Kleemann 3 months ago. 20 min. installing time.
By the instructions, the box was placed by the fusebox under the storage box behind the the passenger seat. By following the instructions, You get the power and ground from the fusebox, no wiring under the floor mat or door sill.

insert key, turn to accessory position, then hold the han up button for 5 seconds and you should be able to scroll through the gauge cluster display until you see the top info, you may need to double check the manufacturer website for instructions beyond that.

smart top
Hey guys
Just bought the smart top, and wondering what is the range to operate the roof top?
I am planing on installing the unit myself, has anyone have the manual or procedure advice on doing this mod on a 2003 SL55 AMG?
Thanks

If you go to mods4cars.com they should have instructions you can download, there is also a good write up on here if you search for it. They work awesome!

I just did it. Great mod, and in particular I like being able to raise and lower the top while driving.
Be sure to look at the short video on their site. The bus can be a little difficult to get out, and look closely at how it is taken apart. It must be taken apart to get the connections out to locate the correct one.

Smart Top...Factory Option???
I am just curious about the Smart Top Option. Was this option or something similar offered standard on SL or AMG models. My 2006 SLK55AMG had something very similar if not identical from the factory. I ordered the car through my dealer and I could open and close the roof with my key FOB from across a parking lot. Similar to what the videos show on Mods4Cars. I never tried it on my SL65 so I don't know if it has this option. Car is in the shop now so I can't test it.

It is really simple if you attempt it on your own, took me about 15the minutes total. I would suggest if you do it on your own, ground it to the bolt on the lower right corner instead of tapping a wire, easier and doesnt cut any more factory wires than absolutely necessary
