Correct! Most of the time this problem is an IC pump.

I found out that of the 1500 SL 55's here in the UK, MB sold or fitted almost 500 last year.
You may be able to get MB to discount the part due to numbers replaced.
Good Luck.

Ic pump i s located in the recess under the drivers side (uk right hand side) headlight.
There are two pumps there the larger top pump is not the pump you need to change the lower smaller bosch unit is the right one to swap out.
I'm in the UK an just ordered a CM30 Johnson pump.. $175 about £125 to replace my stock unit that is on its last legs.
Mercedes wanted £235 for the stock pump I didnt see the point in going for stock when a tried an tested upgrade pump is £125!
Chris.

The large pump is the Charge air coolant pump, the small pump is the heater/washer tank heater pump.Originally Posted by Chris-W

The 2 pumps are stacked. The pump on the top is actually the secondary air injection pump, and the pump on the bottom is the IC pump.Originally Posted by BeltFedBob

Both pumps are accessed by taking off the right side wheel. removing the fender liners, and they are right there in the area that is behind the front bumper.

My car must be different than yours. The small pump with three ports is for the washer tank heater and cabin heater aux coolant circulation. The one big one looking up was the charge air coolant pump. $430 charge air pump vs $175 aux heater coolant pump at MB.Originally Posted by IngenereAMG
