huh? the sound is very very similar. and a $100 x-pipe and $200 in labor makes the slk55 sound like a nascar if this is your thing...
... you do know that both cars share identical 7g tranny- right?
trust me- my wife currently drives an slk55 that i drive from time to time and i do have some time behind the wheel of an sl63 and at least for me the slk55 is more of a driver car than the sl63... both are no sports cars, but the slk feels more like one...

and i don't agree with the 55 engine sounding similar to the 6.2 engine. you said that putting an x pipe would make the sound more aggressive. then what about putting x pipe into the 6.2? im sure it will sound even better!
the only thing that the slk is better is its size and weight.
and i think you just need more seat time in the sl63.
