Unless you mod something, or go to an exotic (murci, 550, cgt, etc.) no car is really going to be all that faster?

Thinking something exotic?

i dont mind modding, but modding a 63 engine gets barely any real gains.

u should look into getting long tube headers and full exhaust.

mayb you can look into evosport in getting an exhaust set up for you. the clk black series gets a hefty 60+rwhp gain from its full exhaust set up. i am sure that evosport will be able to make you something.

if you don't mind paying, you can also look into getting the carlsson ck63rs perf kit. it consists of airboxes, filters, headers, 100cell race cats, mid pipe with silencer and mufflers. this will give you 600ps and 705nm of torque.

While the 63 engine is a bit tougher to tune than the 55K, there still is some room.

We are seeing an 8%+ increase in hp/tq, but we broaden the power band and give it some grunt lower in the rpm band which makes the car more interesting to drive.

I guess I am just one of those guys who doesn't get bored and am always thinking of ways to get the most out of their cars, both from the performance as well as the driver's side. If I haven't held onto a car for 8-10 years, I really didn't like it! TR, 10 years. F40, 8 years, SL55, 6 years. 348, 19 years.

Your car looks great, and I bet there are some secrets about it that you haven''t found!

Heh owning a SL63 is not just about power, the looks, the handling all make
it a fantastic car. The only thing that has more real power is a SL65, I drove
one before buying my SL63 and it was boring. It was quiet smooth and
a bit stodgy, I preferred my CL65! There are some companies in the UK that will give you another 30bhp with better throttle response. I don't think there
is a stock AMG that is really better than the SL63, unless your thinking GTR.
What you need is to get a friend to drive your car and you follow looking
at it from different angles, you might change your mind!

actually, if you are looking for the most fun-to-drive amg convertible an slk55 is slower, but in my mind is a more engaging drive than the sl63...or any other amg except the clk63 bs... lighter, shorter wheelbase.. feels far more nimble and playful... and the soundtrack is no worse...

Venture away from MB for a little bit and drive some competition 2 seat sports cars and see what you think. The experience is much more visceral and engaging.

Ever driven a newer Z06 or SRT10?

i have to say i disagree.. the sound track on the slk55 is not even close to the sound these 6.2L makes.. also the tranny alone makes me stay away from any of the AMGs except for the 09+ models. they shift so slow it doesnt even feel like a sports car. it is lighter but i personally think that just that tranny is already enough to say that it is not even comparable to the sl63 in terms of driving pleasure.

Fantasm, time for a Porsche 997.2 GT3 or GT2!!!

It does not matter what you buy, after 6 months it will loose some of it's shine,it's just natural. Last year I was changing cars every 4-6 months because they lost there wow factor. One thing is for sure, the SL63 gets far more attention than my SL55, my CL65 or my S600 and I don't think
that will change. Try driving something crappy for a week( like a beemer)
then get back in your SL63, absence makes the heart grow fonder!!

huh? the sound is very very similar. and a $100 x-pipe and $200 in labor makes the slk55 sound like a nascar if this is your thing...

... you do know that both cars share identical 7g tranny- right?

trust me- my wife currently drives an slk55 that i drive from time to time and i do have some time behind the wheel of an sl63 and at least for me the slk55 is more of a driver car than the sl63... both are no sports cars, but the slk feels more like one...

The 7speed in the slk55 and the sl63 are completely different. But I do agree while stock the slk55 is slower than the sl63 (not by much) it is a much more engaging drive.

And Sound8 ... want to play with my girly car?

actually the mct is identical to the 7g sans the torque converter. gear meshing servos are identical. the mct tranny has less losses. thats all. full throttle changes are unperceptably fast in both cars.

but yes i have always perceived the slk to be a feminine car... but that does not detract from the fact that it is a great little car..
