SLR230 owners needing blacked out 3 slat grill...

I just found out that on my SL65 build that the 3 slat grill I bought for the SL65 does not fit...it fits every other model in the R230 lineup just not the SL65. I've had it blacked out (see pic below)...

https://mbworld.org/forums/3446272-post15.html

My preference would be to sell it "locally" (I'm in Tampa, Fl). PM me if you are interested...I bought it off formymercedes.com. I'm just going to have to black out the OEM grill...oh well...just bump in the road.

I don't think it will fit any AMG's. I had ordered a R230 grill for my car, which didn't fit because it was longer by a inch, seller told me it's because it wasn't meant for AMG's

I just texted the vendor to inform him...I'll take pictures as verification tomorrow.

I have an 07 SL65 and it has a 3 slat - so it cant be the AMG issue, maybe the hood changed?

It does fit. The grill does fit to the upper 4 screws. The lower lip is too short to hook under the bumpers top flange. But from 5 feet you cant see it, and cant tell. It has plenty of support and bracing. If you want to put one on your car, you can do it and nobody else will ever know.

I dont have one and cant actually do it myself, But Im sure the 07 , up bumpers have a taller top lip, which means the whole grill opening is smaller, and then the new grill will hook under the bumpers flange, same as the old one hook under the old bumper flange.

Chris @ C2Design emailed me some camera pics...the angle and lighting makes it difficult to make a final judgement on it. I'll be there tomorrow to decide for myself.

I'll keep you posted.

As said here in a previous post, the 3 slat grille fits with the '07 front bumper cover & lower mesh and fog lights changes. The 4 slat grill (which I personally think looks fine) fits with '03 -06 for AMG and non AMG cars alike. The '07 - '08 SL500 AMG Sport package and the SL55 AMG had the same front bumber cover and 3 slat grill while the SL65 from '06 had a different bumper (AMGfan's front bumper), which may have also been changed to fit the 3 slat grille from '07 - '08, but in '06 and before they also had the 4 slat grille...

whew that's an earful, how much wood could a woodchuck...nevermind lol

Good info Sunir...I like the chrome slats and accents of the 3 slat grille...whats everyone think if I chrome the 4 slat...my thoughts are it will be too much, a bit overpowering for the front end...

they sell that at formymercedes and I think it looks better than plain silver paint that doesnt match anything else on the car.

I had the chrome slats on my '05 SL55 that I purchased from formymercedes. I thought it looked great. The reason I say it looked great is that I am having the Performance Package front bumper and 3 slat grill put on my car. It should be completed by tomorrow.

The car is still in the body shop waiting to be reassembled. The best that I can do is take pics of the grill off of the car. If you look at the picture thread on the SL55, SL65 forum on page 12 post #287, there is a SL65 with the chrome grille on it. That should give you a good idea of the look.

Does anyone know if the OEM 2007 3 slat grille will fit on a 2003 SL55? This may have been answered in the above posts but I couldn't be sure. Thanks

Thats okay. I would still be interested in getting it. I found a post from someone who made it work with some sheet metal and rivets. How much do you want for it?

So if what Sunir is saying is accurate how can the 3-fin grille that is being sold on www.formymercedes.com Part# 230-880-20-83 fit on a 2003 SL500 but not on my 2003 SL55? are they both not configured to take the same grille?

Thanks Sunir for pointing that out to me & I realized that when I posted BUT you didn't answer my question? I just had my car painted & a bunch of carbon fiber added & I also have the single fin on my SL55 but was hopeing to replace the aftermarket part with an OEM part & the 3-fin that I mentioned would go great with my car if it fit.
