Loosing power can you help?

....sl55 losing power after one thrash, then when cools down works fine again...i understand its a cooling pump???

Can you tell me exactly what pump it is so i can go to my merc dealer and tell them what to replace???

Incidentally WHY does the new pump cure it as surely once chip and pulleys are added then its always going to run hotter???..This pump has done 25000 miles only are the newer ones uprated or something and did the std sl55 suffer the same problems??

Cheers

new IC pump; mb has a newer pump ive been told; some use a Johnson pump (coleman pump same thing?)...if u use 175 or lower pulley you should be fine from what ive read; otherwise HE upgrade can help...

It's the IC pump, as you point out - and the main reason for the MB part failure is the fact that the MB part uses some metal parts, some plastic/nylon, so when the parts expand and contract, they do so at different rates and can sometimes fail. It's a "known issue" on these cars.

The Johnson pumps are not really ideal solutions on their own, as they tend to have much higher flow rates - moving fluid in a closed system at a faster rate increases pressure, and pressure is directly related to temperature, so as flow increases, so does pressure, and so does temp, which is not ideal.

You need more than just the pump, in other words, and vendors like Evosport and RENNtech provide well-proven kits that work - Evo's kit seems more "complete" and is about half the price, but RENN's uses a motorsport pump from Japan that is probably a better pump, so - toss up?

For me, I'd rather spend less on the IC kit and use the extra $ for some HP mods!

ı dont agree with you

when you spend your $ s for more hp , you must spend some of your $s for a new ıntercooler and pump to be able to use your extra power

ı thınk we need to use the new pump and intercooler at the same time to be able to coop with heat am i right here?

Did you guys get new IC pumps? Is all well?

Is the install easy like on the E55? Is it a DIY?

Yes and yes. It's essentially identical to the E55 pump swap.

Thanks jmf003,

If my extended warranty won't cover it, I will be tackling it myself.
