Clicking sound from supercharger????
I've just taken my 55 out from winter storage.
I've noticed that I have a some what loud clicking sound coming from the supercharger area in front and it's not there all the time. It sounds like it's coming from just inside the top belt pulley for the charger. I have not correlated if the temperature of the engine has anything to do with it as of yet. Has anyone else heard this clicking noise.
The car went off warranty last fall.

Might be the kompressor clutch? Where are you located? I'll try to refer you to a local shop who can diagnose and repair the issue (most of the dealers are parts-changers, not ideal).

Sounds like you may have a bearing going out on the clutch pack. The dealer sells a kit called a flange coupling - $800.00...
Look around the clutch pack - look for grease in the area... If you wait untill the bearing blows you may be looking at more issues. Mine blew and casued the internal seals to blow. The only re-builder i could find ws in Oklahoma - $4,000 to re-build. Look up some of my post and you'll see what i have been going through...
If i was you - get it fixed quick if not, mucho head aches to come..
Good luck..

I checked to see if there was any grease or such around the pulley and there was not. I read some other posts and check the oil, took the car for a drive on the highway to see if there was any smoke under hard acceleration and there was none. The interesting thing is that it seems like the noise is only there when the engine is cold and when the engine heats up the noise goes.
To make the best of it, my Mercedes dealer in my area went bankrupt earlier this year, and I have the only 5.5 liter supercharged car in the province anyway. The main merc mechanic has set up in another garage with a star diagnostic machine. But he freely admit he doesn't know much about the engine. I'm on the far east coast of Canada so another garage would be a long travel. Fun, Fun, Fun. I'm going to check in the E55 post to see if they speak of any problems.

Similar noise
I had a noise coming from the front of my engine bay; I thought it was a belt chirping. It was only during the first 5 minutes or so of running. Once everything 'warmed up', the noise went away (mine is an '08, and only had 3200 miles at the time). Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the "belt tensioner and belt" as the issue. Replaced the "tightener pulley and v-belt" and noise was gone. If yours is same issue, I can give you part #'s. Of course, mine was under warranty.

I've been reading post from different parts of the forums and there's a lot wrote about the tension pulley just below the supercharger and that it is hydraulicly control so when the pressure increases in the engine the sound disappears. Most of the write ups are on the C55, looks like it has the same supercharger. One post shows a great video on replacing it.
Is it the same pulley bob44 is referring to. My noise is not a squeak but more of a mechanic clank. I know I'm being very technical.

I went and got a mechanic stethoscope. The sound is not coming from the supercharger or any of the belt tensioners that I could get at. Any ideas?
