According to the 3/03 Car and Driver, a SL55 engine was dynoed at 494hp@5750 and 527lbft@2750. I would GUESS that since it is a fresh engine, the numbers would be even higher after a few miles. Any thoughts??? on fresh vs. broken in output?

MB is usually conservation in power claims(as are most German companies). Ferrari dynos indicate smaller horses or horses that drink too much wine. Nissan should start their claims with "once upon a time...." I spoke to a MBUSA rep at the 2002 NY auto show. He told me that the V12 would be imported and they were actually be driven the required miles for emissions testing. He also stated that the "dogs" were producing in excess of 525 hp. The dog SL55 were all well over the claimed 469.

V12 on order

What do you mean the dogs? Are u saying that the worst of the SL55 that were tested were over 525 hp and are we to assume that the others are more powerful.

A clarification on my "dog" remarks. The MBUSA rep said that the worst of the SL55 engines were well over the claimed 469, most were closer to 500hp. The new V12 were all 525+.

Sorry for the confusion.

Renntech ran at least one SL55 on their dyno and got 390.6 hp with torque at 446.7. After their upgrade hp went to 429.1 and torque to 484.3.

How do you like their products Absent. I have been in contact with them regarding the pulley and ECU upgrade for the E55.

Thumbs up

Renntech has very high quality ,well proven and reliable products,I'm extremely happy with them.
All mods were done by my MB dealer, so that helps too!

Renntech

I concur with "absent". Renntech is first-class, and then some. I have personally been in their facility, 4 times and can attest to their expertise and thoroughness.

In 1993 I had them do a full 6 liter conversion of my 500SL and the car was returned to me, cleaner then the day I took delivery from my Merceces dealer. More importantly, the car performed flawlessly and was very fast. Just sold it last autumn prior to getting my SL55.

My SL55 leaves this week, transported from PA to FL, along with a friends SL55, for the ECU upgrade, pulley swap and exhaust changes.

WOW, you have to keep me informed as to the dyno figures before and after if you can, it would be greatly appreciated. Iam thinking of driving down later this summer and letting them do the install on the E55.
