Need price opinion on SL55 ASAP.. need to decide and need a car

Hey guys, what do you think of this deal?

2003 SL55 AMG 31k miles

black/black

PANO

TPMS

$34999

Car doesn't have any warranty left obviously, and I think I am going for the $3k Chrysler Service Contract 5 years from today and 70k miles.

So to have warranty, I guess adding $3k to the car's price.. but 9/10 03-04 amgs are not gonna have any warranty left.. so is that a good deal, bad deal, ok deal? The extended warranty is FULLY TRANSFERABLE! Which will help sell the car I am sure.

$35k

Obvious concerns here.

Seems reasonable, however, its a 7 year old car and mileage can become less important if the maintenace record is not there.

Also are you sure there is no body work? Low mileage cars tend to have damage.

Alot of folks dont like 2003s as they are first year of production.

And have you noticed the financial state of Chrysler? Bankruptcy not a good thing for warranties my friend.

My 2 cents.

Your comment on low mileage cars tend to have damage is truly a sweeping generality. I have a 2005 SL55 with 8,600 miles on it that has never been damaged. Low mileage could also be a sign that there are other cars in the owner's stable that are also driven.

Yes it is truly.

But if it happens to be the car your buying, then maybe its not a generality anymore.

No paintwork (meter looked) and its very clean.

Screw the CSC, going with fidelity platiunum which is fully transferable and is $2k for 4 yrs 48k miles! every benz dealership recommends them, and they have contracts with certain dealerships near me, and they underwrite porsche, audi, vw, etc

Is this going to be your daily driver? If so, I would personally go with a 05' or higher. The navigation is much better,& it would be newer w/ an exisiting warranty. Plus electrical twinks were cleaned up in later years. do a autotrader search, i am sure you can find a used good 05' SL55 for a good deal. If this will be your weekend ride with minimal wear and tear go for it..

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
Do a carfax, and have a Mercedes dealer look up the service history on it, and have a Mercedes dealer do a certified inspection. Then youll know everything about the car.

I think 35k is a great deal! How do you like the car so far?

$35k sounds like a reasonable deal. I just paid $39K out here in CA for a single owner '04 with 45K miles, and I've seen a couple others for sale at about the same price.
