Do all 03 SL55s come with XM radio? How can you tell?
Going to look at a car, wondering if there is a tell tale way to see if it has xm radio before I get there. What can the dealer look for if it has it?
Any help is greatly appreciated,

What year? If it has Sirius/XM it will have the antenna mounted in the center of the trunk.

I believe the only option was a sirius tuner. It was a option. I dont think there was many. Its very expensive from mercedes.
#1, have the dealer pull up the origional option list of the car, then look for the antenna to see if they had one installed later.

if it doesn't have it, is it expensive to add? Or should I just buy a sirius radio.. for example one called Sirius One.. looks like a mini beeper/radar detector, and use that. Got it for $24 shipped on Amazon.

I dont know how much the mercedes sirius add on is. But probibly $500 to $1000.
You can use the sirius add on and run it thru the fm , but it just modulates the signal into your fm tuner.

I have an 04 and it didnt have it so I bought the sirius kit and had it installed.
Mounted the head unit through the grill on top of the dash so as not to drill and placed the antenna under the drives top vent outside and you cant even see it.
You will have to set your radio to a station and have it run through the radio/nav command. It works fine and causes no issues to me.

If you use the sirius add on, No you dont have anything on the screen. Just the fm station, The only way you can get that feature is to have a factory unit.
You are looking at something like a sirius starmate.
I used one of these for the first couple of months I had my car. Then I did my whole system, see this :

I had MB install Sirius in my E55. It runs through the nav. and looks/acts like it came from the factory. Kit and install was $1,000. Personally, I think Sirius sucks and I won't renew my subscriptions when they are due. I'm back to CD's because I can choose what I'm listening to.
