SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL65 stereo upgrade finished...
Top down with view of the new Kenwood DNX8120 headunit with alcantara trim plate...It turned out great and looks really classy in person.

Open trunk (absolutely no trunk space lost...wheel well utilized)...

Ipod in center armrest location (bottom level)...

13' subwoofer in stock location in front passenter footwell...

Focal 6.5" (midbass) and 5.25" (midrange) in the stock door location...Focal tweeter in A pillar...

PS...I got the new rims and tires (255 front and 305 rears - PS2's) mounted today too...I'll post pics when the car is detailed.

Edit: Also noticed that your amp shells are black. I guess I haven't paid much attention lately as I didn't realize they came in black.

It sounds great with the top down...not muddy but very tight...it even sounds better with the top down.
The JL amps are a special black series...same innards just with black casing.
We still may go that route...I probably will send a second trim plate to Kicherer (Germany - company who made the CF trim kit) to get the weave just right. For now...the alcantara is still a great option since it matches the interior alcantara on the A pillars and the gauge cluster.

In fact, what a perfect reason to pick up an SL over the new E; there would be no sealed off back seat between the cabin and the trunk. I'm running a full 1000 RMS to the 35lb Type-x subwoofer just to get the lows I wanted in the cabin. I rarely turn it up to "bump" but I would probably say your setup gives you more thump than mine does.

Can I just make a little observation of what Im seeing for that faceplate..
Make the whole panel a close match of carbon fiber. Chris can do it. Then black out the inner area around the radio, so you end up with just a ring, or edging of carbon. Enough to carry the carbon from the console up to the radio panel. And around the radio. Then the blacked out radio face will appear larger and blend to the shape of the origional opening.
Easy.
