Keyless Go? I think I have it.

OK, so I took delivery of my car and I bought it from a high-line dealer and they claim it doesn't have keyless-go, but the shifter has a big *** Start / Stop Engine button on it. With the key in the ignition (or not in the ignition), I can push the button on the shifter and something on the dash lights up. (I don't remember what did, but something did as I'm just recalling from memory and the car is 3000 miles away from me now). I'm assuming I have keyless-go, but probably regular smartkeys and not the "Keyless-go" smartkeys. Is this a safe assumption?

If so, what would I do to get it working? I'm assuming I'll need to go get some from MB Dealer and get them paired to the car. Is that a safe assumption or did all SL65s come with the button on the shift knob even though it didn't have it?

Just trying to figure this one out. It'd be a nice surprise if I did though.. lol.

It's a 2005 SL65.

TIA.

Car Whore
if that button on the shifter is there, you have it.
make sure you hold down the brake when you push it and it should start up.

woohoo! cool! Thanks for the reply. I can't remember if I held the brake down, but knowing me, I didn't..lol.

Also, if I swap the batteries out on my keys, do I need to do anything to "resync" them to the car? or will it just work? One of the keys has a dead battery.

You shouldn't need to re sync anything just replace them and you will be set.

Here is how you find out if your car has Keyless Go:

1.) Visit http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng
2.) Enter in your VIN
3.) If you have option code "889 Keyless-GO" listed on this VIN sheet, your car was built with the Keyless Go option.

Good luck,

-m

If the Start/Stop button is on the shifter, you have it.

With an '05, I believe that you have a Smart Key. With '03's you had a separate card that you keep in your wallet to make it work. As long as you have your key in the car, it should be enough on the '05.

Just so you know, if you put the key in the ignition, the keyless will not work. You have to have the key in the car and press the brake along with the button (as stated above). If it does not work, then they may not have provided you with a "keyless-go" key and you would have to get one from a dealer.

You do have keyless go in your car. Just like the others said, keep the keyless go key in your pocket, press and hold the brake pedal down, and then press the button on the shifter. If it doesn't work, then you will need to get the keyless go key from the dealer.

I ordered a spare keyless go key for my SL55 and the key alone was $250 plus an additional $80 to program it to the car. I just gave the MB dealer my VIN and they ordered the key.
