Thanks bro!

For me there's no point in being pissed cause that's just wasted energy. I have a lot more to worry about working overseas in the sandbox.

The valve springs failed while I was keeping up with a 600cc bike from 60 to 120 so that was fun. I actually like breaking crap too!

Like I said, I look at this as an opportunity to better the build and install titanium rods, higher compression pistons and hopefully build some custom high lift cams!

Come on Brad, work your magic!!

Not yet..
Evosport is currently working on building the custom high lift camshafts. Once we have the cam specs we will get some new custom forged pistons and titanium rods made.
We are also looking into the stroker crank and if new custom pistons for the stroker will still have enough integrity to support boost.
We are looking at Jan-Feb for the completion of the engine build and then a couple months to tune.

Just read this thread from beginning to end. What an incredible journey in modding. Hats off; you have the patience of Moses (but with a much bigger wallet). Most all of the simple mods on my SLK55 came along with no issues. I'm modding my girlfriends CLK430 and I exploded on my tuner for not checking the spring pads before installing the Eibachs. After reading this thread, I just learned that I'm whiney little girl with PMS.... I just marked my calendar to check back on this thread come new year - I'm rivited. Thanks again.

Any updates? Also, do you have a spare engine that's in your car while your VRP engine gets built?

No, I don't have a spare engine. Looking back I might have bought one, but since I work overseas 10 months out of the year I'm not home much to drive it anyway.

Updates: The Ti rods are almost finished being made and the heads are getting reworked. Brad is currently working on the cam and piston profile.

Yeah, I agree! 3 years is just plain crazy. This build hasn't been a priority for me and I gave the builders a lot of slack when they asked for it in the past.

At least my car is in better hands now. As you know evosport has put out some professional builds and I'm confident they can get her done right. Unfortunately, only “more time” will tell, but I won't give up until I have the ultimate 55K!

The Ti rods are for added strength since I'm increasing the compression ratio, boost, and RPMs. They are also for reducing the rotating mass, which in conjunction with the lighter pistons, crank, and better flowing top mounted coolers, should help produce more top end power.

no offense you have a great car but what a waste of money in all your mods.

you damged the valves you said keeping up with a 600cc bike lol from 60-120. with whatever mods you have done looks like the guys at VRP dont know what there doing.

you should of either ditched the sl55 and went for a sl65 with ecu tuning from renntech or kleemann the car would of been a monster.

or what whatever money you have spent in the car let renntech work on the car instead of backyard mechanics.

just me .2cents.... good luck

The thing is, for some guys the end result is what matter but for other guys the journey is what matters.

I personally got a ton of satisfaction out of researching and choosing the upgrades and installation team for my car. Most of my choices worked out great. A few didn't and had to be undone or redone. At the end of it all, I was much happier going through that process than I would have been just writing a check to Renntech or Kleemann.

So I understand where Havoc is coming from. The journey is what mattered to him, too. Not all his choices worked out and some had to be redone but that's just part of taking the path less traveled.

That's not to say I disagree with your comments, though. I think they just apply to different people.

For what it's worth....

Thanks for the support Hercules86 and I understand what you’re saying because it’s easy to look at my build and judge the path I took and say, You should have done this.. You could have done that.. Hey, I learned a lot about the 55K along my journey and I'm going to get it right eventually as I improve on the weak points. Keep in mind that all auto manufactures have had stock engines that have failed before and I expected some issues along the way of a custom build so no surprise there.

You first have to understand my goal here. I’m not going for the fastest car or the fastest Mercedes bolting on part by part and tracking it to see the gains. Nor do I want an SL65. I want to modify all aspects of my 55K at one time and have a fully built custom AMG engine. It’s going to make whatever power it makes and it’s going to run whatever time it runs.

And about your waste of money commit. It’s only money bro. You can’t take it with you and I’m making more so I’m not worried.

Hey havoc very true lol.

Love the car though i didnt mean any disrespect towards your modding. I have done the same thing with different cars, and one plus is you def learn a crapload about that engine and what it can and cannot handle

No but it is here to serve you when spent wisely.

Then good if that's your rational about this. You could write me a chk for a couple of G's and I'll send my baby down to Renntech. Too me,you work hard to earn your $ and there is alot of time going by here. That's what people are here saying. A motor build just does not take this long bro.

+1 I would've rather sent it to RENNtech and have the whole project done in 3 to 4 months rather have the car practically down for 3+ years. I do understand the OPs point about the excitement of the journey, but after a while, I would start to miss my car too much.

I am done with waiting for a car to get done...I think from now on if it's longer than a couple of weeks I'm going to draft a statment of work with terms and expectations with payment contingiencies and deliverable dates. If I am the client then they have payment expectations and so it should only be fair to have schedule milestones and delivery date adhered to.

True, and it has as I'm seeing a great return on my investments.
Nevertheless, I could have stuck with Vadim as he wanted to finish the build, but I moved on and went with evosport which is a better decision in my book. The past is just that so why dwell on it. Be positive and move on. I have!
