Brought the SL55 to the 1/4 mile track for some drags!
Last Friday I brought my 03 SL55 to PBIR with a few of my GTR friends to do some 1/4 mile runs.
I invited other SL's but no one showed. I don't think many SL55/65 owners like to drag race.
My car is 100% stock down to the paper filters. 38k miles on the clock. It never dropped below 90 degree's that night and it was humid as hell.
My best run was:
1/4 Mile ET: 12.507
1/4 Mile MPH: 112.99
1/8 Mile ET: 8.058
1/8 Mile MPH: 85.410
0-60 Foot ET: 1.844
Temperature F: 91.0
Density Altitude (DA): 2000 feet
Here is a video of a different run from that night.

My friends GTR is 100% totally stock. He was running 11.7 @ 120 over and over again that night.
120 trap speed - 3800 pounds and less than 500hp. Amazing!
Here is a video of it from the same night.

We will be out at PBIR this Wed the 30th of sept 2009.
I would love to see another SL55 or 65 come out to join me and some GTR's.
I decided to keep my car 100% stock. It's just too heavy to mod this thing.

Went to the track as posted above last night.
No SL55's showed. Typical....
Beat my best time. I ran a 12.4. My car is 100% stock down to the paper filters.
According to http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.html
I have the fastest stock (reported) SL55 in the 1/4 mile.

100% stock. Toyo T1R summer tires with 38 pounds of pressure at all 4's at the time.
Trac off, suspension in lowest mode (high mode gives me axle hop) no burnout, no break torque. Don't slam the throttle down off the line. Take about a second to go full throttle.
Very repeatable. I can do 12.5's all day long hot lapping.
I installed a CM30 and it hurt my times and trap. I put a brand new OEM MB pump in and the car runs better than with the CM30.

Great to see what happens when you get a pulley and tune. So pretty much you ease into the throttle until its floored within a second. Wow, it's stuff like this that impresses me about how the E55 and SL55 and other 5-Speed M113K cars are to launch and run good strip times. Do you have extensive drag racing experience/strip time?

I have drag raced quite a few cars in the past 10 years. Each one needs a different driving style to extract the best times from them.
I don't think this car would be hard to launch at the drag strip even for novices. It seems 55 cars in general hook very well.
The key is to ease into the throttle.

i pulled in and ran it hot, as in right off the bee line, i wasnt there 3 min off the beeline and i wanted to see what it would run hot.
left it in d and trac control on. launched good. went a 1.8x 60 but about 900 feet out i felt supercharger **** off from the heat, went 132 or 4 at like 107.
so i decided to let it cool. so i opened the hood and waited for an hour. still too hot to the touch. so i put a bag of ice ontheblower, and waited another hour and change. started it and pulled right to the line. decided to try alunch with trec control OFF . spun, BADLY, but i got the mph back, went 13.0 at 112.
problem now was it was late and track was closing, so i could only let it sit fr 5 or 10 minutes, but i told them i wanted to be the last car down. so even semi warm, temps about half way, i was gonna try it, so with i turned trac control off, cut a good 1.83 60' and went 12.60at 113.9. its probably got a .4 in her in cold air, my big heavy *** doesnt help, it cost me a tenth or 2 easy over you .
but with my new wheels on i wont be racing anytime soon

Sounds good. You should submit your slip at http://www.dragtimes.com . It's good to see other stock SL55 times.
Thanks!
