Put my 20s on & now Check Engine light is on.

Just had my 20" wheels put on my sl55 amg and I didn't have them switch the TPMS sensors. Check Engine light now comes on, is this normal? Is it just detecting that the TPMS sensors are no longer there?

Pictures coming.

No. Nothing to do with TPMS. You should not have a CEL because of TPMS. You WILL have a little orange light though. Are you sure that's not what you are seeing?

The flat tire light is not lit, only the CEL light. Hmmmm? It happened right after they installed the 20" wheels. I saw them install them, nothing special really.

I guess I'll have to take it in for service and see what's up.

My check engine light comes on every once in a while. If you read in your owners manual you'll see that that is either an exhaust emission or you allowed your car to run on empty for a long extended period of time before refueling. All I have to do is shut down and That doesn't mean that something else could be wrong with your car though, but I am just speaking from my experiences, I don't get wrapped around the axle anymore just because I see the check engine light.

Is there a way to clear a check engine light without going to the dealer? Or will it clear itself when the cause clears?

I think it can reset itself after a number of restarts especially if the issue is like what Charles Pearson was discussing.

plug an OBD II scanner in and see what codes it is throwing off.
I bought an OBD scanner from autozone for my Jeep before coz the engine light was on, I tried plugging it in the SL just for fun and the scanner does read no problem.

CEL has nothing to do with your 20 inch wheels. It's more then likely a coincidence; I had the TPMS sensors go off when I switched to 20s, but the CEL never came on.
