Am I correct?
With the governor removed, its definitely faster than 180mph... I don't know if it does the often quoted 208mph. AMG only unlocks it to 300 km/h (186 mph) and they do have amazing acceleration at the high end (had one behind me in Germany when I was going 250km/h; after he passed me, he accelerated and that car took off and I mean really took off , not just the usual slow gaining in speed as so many cars do at the top end). Just amazing

Too Young To Drive
Just to get things straight, I am:

1. A Corvette fan, though that's not the only car that I love
2. A member of BMWM5 forums where the same z06 vs SL55 thread exists, so I guess I'll act as the middleman here.

Firstly, my opinion. Undoubtedly, at those low speeds, the Z06 would have won, no question whatsoever. That z06 is lighter, has a manual and is equally as aerodynamic. Secondly, facts for Wolfman. Z06s can pull mid-to-low 12s, easy; I've only seen one SL55 do a mid-12, and mind you, that's not from a very trustable source, Motortrend.

Yes, the SL55 does have higher top end acceleration and top speed when weight and transmission losses play less of a factor, plus its superior torque curve also give it a hand. Iron Sheik, stop generalizing. Just because one Vette lover who doesn't know his facts don't make all Vette lovers stupid. But then again, we're comparing apples and oranges here... the Vette costs a mere $50,000. You'd be considered lucky if you could find an SL55 for less than double that.

Great thread.....how about making the SL55 lighter? How about recommendations on the easiest thing to change....wheels and tire combo? Maybe Luke from tirerack can help. Id like to know the weights with tires of the stock turbines, the AMG rims, and the split 5 spoke wheels. The decrease in rolling weight, even though it may be just a few pounds on each tire, should be much more significant than a similar or even higher weight loss in the body of the car due to frictional losses on the drivetrain, etc. Correct me if im wrong. So how about some good substitutions from the stock wheel/tire combo?

Any other ideas as to how the SL55 can be made lighter without damaging the car or doing anything stupid?
