Looks like the SL55 beats the ZO6 off the line then the ZO6 passes the SL55

Does anyone know at what speed the SL55 starts to loose to the ZO6?

You would think the extra HP and TQ of the SL55 would not let the ZO6 pass it like that.

And you would think the SL55 would pass the ZO6 at some crazy speed in mid hundreds again.

How fast is the ZO6 in the 1/4 mile?

Thanks for the great video!

I recently ran a Z06 at the local dragstrip when Pocholin was visiting. He ran 12.309 @114.07 to my 12.195 @116.97. He was on street tires as was I. Afterwards in the pits he and his wife came to look at my car and said they should sell the vette and the suburban and buy one like mine. I don't think his car was bone stock, probably headers and performance chipped. But they are light and quick.

Come on guys, this is hardly fair, an 1880KG car with 500BHP and a 400kg lighter car with 405?

The SL was never meant to be heartbreakingly quick, although it is, but thats what the SL65 is made for, id like to see that video again with an SL65!

Bilal has it spot on. The SL weighs something like 4400 pounds vs 3200 for the Z06.

Weight is always a factor. Not too sure how many of us would ever choose a Z06 over a SL55 though.

Stock vs. Stock - close one there (W211) but I would bet on the Z06 because of the weight factor again.

Me agree too, the Zo6 is devastatingly quick, however the E55, hmm, that may be a bit tough.

After seeing that vid, weight DOES play a VERY important factor.

I wonder why so many of our SL55 owners here never make any fun vids like that!!!

Talking

What was that test with the SL55, Lambo, and others at the Nardo track?

If I remeber the SL55 went to 187MPH faster than all of them.

I wonder if the SL55 would take the ZO6 above 150\

Maybe we can get the guys from the video to try that test!!

Just a little fun on a Monday

I wonder if that vette was stock. Also at the very end it looked like the sl55 was catching up to pass. probably would pass it from 150mph onwards, if it were unlimited. Then there is also the larger rolling resistance from those 19 or 20inch rims on the SL55. Plus no tire squeel meaning the ESP was probably still on, which could be a plus or minus depending on which way you look at it.

Anyway still one hell of a video!

Unhappy Video

You guys should not be encouraging someone to be making videos of street racing, such things have put people in jail! You should also consider the frontal area/drag coefficient of the vehicles in question along with the HP/weight ratio. My W210 E55 is probably 250-300 lbs. lighter than the W211 E55 and making 530HP. The Z06 I raced was on a drag strip and I beat him by maybe two car lengths, so don't sell them short!

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
I do not care if the Z06 has heades or chip, for sure has no Turbo, the point there is that the SL55 has 20" + 4400 pounds . Well, needs some upgrade.
I do love huge wheels but when you get one of these cars (+4000 pounds) for me work just leave the stock wheels.
For sure looks like this SL55 need some tunning to much the 20" loss:

The Z06 runs out of useful gears at about 150 mph. The car is essentially geared with a close ratio 6 speed gear box. TWO of those gears are overdrive = useless

The SL55 is geared well across the board just like most Italian/German beasts.

Those Z06s can run low 12s with a good driver, a friend of mine is running 12.2s on his stock!

What is actually amazing is that you can buy a MB that bone stock can challenge a Z06. The SL55 is an awesome car, power AND true luxury. The Z06 is a fighter jet. As mentioned, power to weight is the key here. The gearing is also important. The Z06 has a 6 speed manual and at low speeds can easily loose traction. The 55 has massive torque and an automatic with a sofisticated traction control that allows near optimal acceleration for available traction. This shows in the video as the SL55 jumps the Vette off the line or on roll-on. Once into its power band the Vette clearly has a better rwtq-to-weight ratio than the 55.

2 very different cars.

Remember, a bone stock Z06 makes aproximately 350rwhp and for under $5k can have 450rwhp That said a supercharged car is easily upgraded powerwise. My guess is the SC 5.5 could easily handle 600hp (500 or so rwhp) and would probably only need good exhaust manifolds and a pulley change on the SC to get there.

To me, it looked like on both runs the SL55 hit the breaks once it beat it outright. For sure in the second run.... look at the tail lights on the SL... it beats the Z06 then the lights get brighter, and that's when the Z06 comes back. It looks like the Z06 doesn't even come close...

I looked at this video and tend not to believe that this is a real race...

For one, the Z6 specs show no better numbers anywhere from 0-100 mph or on a quarter mile and it shows the corvette pulling away at just 60 mph (speedo shot). Nice try

Please tell me that the SL55 is faster at top end...cuz some people (vette lovers) are just too stubborn and won't accept the facts that the SL55 has a faster top speed!!
Am I correct?

Well, I don't know the answer to that, because the 6 speed gets there. I used to have a 99 vette, bone stock I took it two times to 180 mph and I still had more speed to go (very slowly), but ran out of room quick at those speeds on the freeway.
I still do belive the SL55 will have more speed and will reach it faster because of the super charger.
