Yup my SL600 had both Engine/Tranny mounts replaced under warranty around $4500 very common w/the 600/65 motors, I've heard of several since. Torque is hard on everything...

Never addressed the mounts with my car.

carcommander and Thericker- what prompted you guys to have the motor mounts replaced?

What did you notice improved afterwards?

Alright I just researched it..

Looks like the front motor mounts are $85/ea and the rear transmission mount is $30.

It says here that the motor needs to be raised, not completely taken out of the car. But to raise it you will need to remove the exhaust and a bunch of other things.

$4500 seems REALLY expensive.

W/mine Tranny mounts were replaced as well, the car wont squat on full acceleration, it basically is so loose from blown mounts, the entire drive-line twists under heavy/part throttle causing major lag & slower acceleration from ANY speed. After fix car was a different animal altogether!

When I was racing friends modded 335i when the mounts were blown-out friends watching us race noted my car never squatted just bogged while the 335i squatted n' took-off my SL just sat their for about half a sec then slowly accelerated.

I felt the lackluster perf, but got used to the blown-mounts over time until I lost a race I knew I should've won. EZ for techs to spot too...

I did get IC pump replaced too, but they said Engine mount labor was something ungodly like 15hrs, if you need it I can get the old receipt

There should be only 3 mounts in all. 2 up front for the motor (item #8) and a single mount in the rear for the transmission (item #35).

Looks like there are 2 different versions of the mounts. One of them requires the engine to be remove and the other requires it to be lifted up.

i think there are simply two types of suckers. one that get taken by the dealership to lift the engine up (remove headers) and the other that get the talked into removing the engine (i have never seen the second type, but if you say it exists... )

the 55/600/65 engine mounts are all the same. (actually i think all sl/cl mounts are identical)... it is a two hour job, the headers dont need to be removed, the engine needs to be nudged 2 inches or so up and the mounts can be snuck out/ news ones in fairly quickly.

Okay but there are no headers on the 600/65 M275 motor... there's also not too much room to ratchet around with bolts...

Here are the two different types:

i dont follow you... no headers? also, once you nudge the motor up, you will be surprised how much room is in there... tight- yes. unworkable- no.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Motor mounts and trans mounts, on both...

my last E55 and my SL55. I think the trans mount made the biggest difference in the supercharger engagement. If you haven't had them done, complain to you SA about SC engagement, mention trans mount.

yes blower engagement/disengagement tends to move the motor around a bit.. if the mounts have collapsed the driver is left with a junky/trashy/unsophisticated feel when the blower kicks in/out...kind of like when the ac engages/disengages on a cheap econobox...
