SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Turbos vs. Supercharger
I've ridden in MarkoCL65's sub-11 second car--which is WAAAY faster than my 11.4 second car--and it felt to me exactly like JayCL600's comment: violently fast once the turbos spooled.
I completely agree with your main point: the 5.5L TT V12 is an awesome engine which makes the SL600 a really fast and mighty fine car.
Also...almost NO race car truly has any kind of power below 2000 rpm. My Firebird wouldn't get beat by any MB that I'm aware of; but below 2500 you'd never know it - why do you think I have deepish gears and a 3600 converter?
Plus, S/C that are pullied to have the best low end grunt rarely have much top end to speak of especially when heat soak becomes such a factor (compared to a turbo).
Ok, but seriously, lets be real for a minute. High 10's and 11's are quick for MB's...but in the world of FAST street cars, not so much. If you look at the big boys...you know, the ones with single digit street legal cars (down to the high 7s and low 8s) they are typically either turbo or nitrous (or both) cars...there's a reason that s/c's aren't the gotta have item anymore; someone found a better mousetrap. My car would be seriously limited with a roots supercharger, that's why I don't have one and why I get a lot done with smallish cubic inches.

... looks like the 55k modded will do well compared to the moderately modded v12tt but a well modded SL65 will be doing 10.7 - 11.0 which is very friggin fast
! So the only way I really see the SL55 comparing to the v12tt, namely the 65 at the former's peak comparison levels, is a whole lot of mods...
no way around it. At that point weight advantage, whomever lightens their car more could be faster (i.e cf panels and what not...)Dang ricker ur throwin numbers at us 55 guys like bricks haha lol bro! You got a sick ride man keep up the good work

planning on hitting 1/4 in my SL soon but I live in Santa Barbara, closest 1/4 is 5hrs (1) way...Like I said above
fact is we are all winners, we all drive fantastic machines, v8 or v12, we represent the top 1% of the world people, lets sit back and enjoy who we are and what we get to drive every day.

i just noticed its a cl, im trying to compare sl to sl.
I added my stock, with bad IC pump, 1/4 mile time. That was 12.87 @ 107 mph with a 1.97 60' and a DA of 3200' (same track as the 12.29). Seems like the SL should be quicker than the CL, no? The tires for ALL passes with the CL were 255/45/18 BFG G-Force A/S.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
best stock SL55 is 12.48 @ nearly 112mph, go chk Dragtimes SL55 STOCK 12.48 - 13.00 @ 112 - 110 http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.htmlA heavier CL600 12.10 @ nearly 117 mph... 12.1x - 12.6x @ 117 - 114 mph
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...ag-Racing.html
Do the math, SL600 weighs couple hundered lbs less than CL600

Both these guys are respected board members here @ MBW in heavy S600's how does 11.97 @ near 115 strike ya? that'd leave your stock Time Machine by 5+ lengths to 1320' in a heavy ***'d 4-door w220 S600 http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-11391.htmlStill think a lighter SL600 will be slower

Housclass 12.2x @ near 114 http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-14182.html
Most records I've been quoting/linking have Time Slips attached w/track data temps etc...

You've really got to keep two things in mind here. 1) the IC pump on the car was bad on that 12.87 pass, other times from that day were all over the place. 2) The DA sucked on all my passes...just not great weather for any of these runs (but you can't be choosy when you live in the boonies); with a reasonable DA and a prepped track that hadn't been rained on my car would've been 12.3x stock and 11.8x tuned; even on the tires I currently have. The car went 8.08 in the 1/8 stock after the IC pump was fixed...still with a DA of 3100' and a 60' of 1.76 that would've easily been 12.4-12.5; a DA of 1500-2000 would've had that down to the 12.3x's. Time slips from different track with different conditions aren't as comparable as you seem to think....base elevation at both tracks I run at is 2050 and 2275.
What was the DA on your 12.6 @ 113.9 run?

second car. look at these numbers
1/4 Mile ET: 12.298
1/4 Mile MPH: 113.880
1/8 Mile ET: 8.021
1/8 Mile MPH: 90.850
0-60 Foot ET: 1.977
Temperature F: 50.0
significantly slower 60' than me and a slower mph than me yet you think its 5 cars in front of me? you keep racing on the internet, i'll keep racing in reality. something doesnt add up here.
