Want to change Transmission Fluid.. Can i use Royal Purple
I am going to do a complete oil change, and differential change. I thought while i was down there, i might as well change the trans fluid and filter.
I have used Royal purple products on other cars with great results. However, i have never used their MAX ATF fluid.
Royal purple's website says i can use the MAX ATF on Mercedes Benz 236.x
BUT then later states:
Please note: Max ATF is not recommended or an approved warranty replacement for: Aisin Warner AW-1, Ford Type F, Ford Mercon SP & Mercon LV, GM Dexron VI, Mercedes Benz MB 236.12 & 236.14, Shell M1375.4 (ZF 6-Speed AT) and Toyota WS. Max ATF is not recommended for use in any CVT applications.
So, what trans do i have in my 2004 Sl55, and can i use this instead of OEM?
Anyone else used it???
Thanks
Nick

This is the link to the oil specification cross reference based on transmission. I do not know the transmission you have, but the 722.6 is likely.

When you find which MB specification you should be using, look here.

Royal Purple is not on their list.

ya stick to their list
i personally dont understand the hype behind royal purple but that is just me
there are many good oil companies out there
id suggest contacting a local mercedes specific shop that deals with modifcations and engine work
they will be much more helpful than the mb dealer
i personally race motorcycles and i run amsoil which is a smaller company that most outside of the enthusiast or racing world wont know about but they produce a top notch oil
