SL63 or SL65
Hi people,
I am looking to buy a SL63 but I am also considering the SL65.
What's your opinion? Which handles better? Better for daily? No track use.

The 65 is quicker, probably the ultimate cruiser.
The 63 is slower but with a better exhaust note, better gearbox, far more agile
and imo more fun, presuming your talking about both being the latest shape and the 65 remaining unchanged mechanically.
This should open a can of worms, and please guys let's talk cars without getting personnel.
My basis for this comparison was a drive in the older not the latest shape 65,
so if they have changed the exhaust note, the gearbox and suspension on the current shape 65,then take no notice of my comparison.

I use my SL65 as a daily driver. I put 15K on it in the last year. Before that I had an Sl55 that I drove for 1 year as a daily driver (similar to SL63). The torque of an SL65 is a ball. If the difference in price doesnt bother you I would get an SL65. It will yank the paint off an SL63. Personally I think the difference in handling on the street is very little. And yes I have lots of track experience. Niether is a track car and both handle like pigs on stilts compared to a 911 turbo or a Ferrari F430. I love the SL65 on the street. And yes I own both those cars. I still drive the SL65 the most.

i LOVE my sl63. it is my summer daily driver.
my toy car is an f450 spider.
the sl63 is GREAT as a daily driver. it is fast enough, has an incredible exhaust note, and is a blast to drive in manual mode.

tips the scales a bit more to my 63. It certainly wont yank my paint off,
maybe a Zonda or similar but not a stock 65.

Defiantly SL63, it has a wonderful transmission that the SL65 does not have. THis transmission makes the car wonderful to drive (race start, really fast shifting etc.).
The SL63 also has a better exhaust note making it more fun to drive.
I highly recommend the SL63, I am about to order one.

I was considering ordering it with the performance package, but I decided against it as it will just be using the car for regular use, no track. I also like the standard wheels better.
Thinking of ordering it with the classic silver on red color combo.
I see you also own an S600, ironically I am planning on ordering one alongside the SL63 and depending on my decision (Range Rover vs G55) maybe a G55.
I've been running around in an S550 for the past two years waiting for my house to be built, and once it finally is, I am going to order all of those to fill up the garage! Can't wait! I have planned that these three be my everyday drivers. S600-main everyday, G55-winter everyday, SL63-sports roadster everyday.
How do you like the S600? What year is it?

I had a 2010 RR SC and it started having problems after 300 miles. I sold it.
I bought a 2nd G55 (first 1 was a 09 and got stolen). Current 1 is 2010.
Another member here on mbworld was also hesitant between a RR and a G55; he test drove both RR and G55 but bought a 09 G55.
Forget RR. Nothing like the G55.
For every 10 RRs, you see 1 G.

Here we go again lol...
SL65 is a full second quicker & 9-11 mph faster to 1/4 mile that = roughly 10 + car lengths, it will literally yank your paint off quicker than the local monkeys @ hand car wash w/rock chips in their mits.
As far as your SL63 being "far more agile" depending on which publication you believe/subscribe to the SL63 & SL65 are nearly equal in curb weight
Exhaust note is superb on the SL63 but if you run hi-flo cats 3" straight pipes no muff's on 65/600 you'll hear something unholy & genuinely unique vs ANY 55/63/65 in stock form

I don't know what the carbon pack is either, an above poster mentioned it as a must have, guessing it is just the interior trim.
My current color combo choices:
S600-Black/SavannaCashmere
G55-Silver/Black
SL63-Silver/Red
Btw, how do you like your Bentley?

Made the decision tonight- G55! I Just like the car better, also I am a huge Mercedes fan, and I really want to stay all Mercedes. Was just considering the Range Rover because it seemed to be a bit of a better Daily driver. I think it will be nice to be driving all Mercedes everyday, I will be very familiar with all of the cars, instead of getting out of a German car and going into a British car.

My G55 is black on black with piano black trim. My bentley is black on black with white contrasting stitches and piano black veener.

Auto rags as well as MBW members have run a BEST of 12.50 @ 112-114 mph in SL63 vs SL65 11.50 @ 120-123 mph

been re-mapped to 560+ with K&N filters. Nuff said.
Getting back to the carbon pack, it consists of CF front wing fenders, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and interior centre console door caps. It looks best on
colours other than black, however it's the type of package that might help sell when it's time to go, that and a pan roof!

No one as yet, as far as I am aware has done drag times for a SL63 that has
been re-mapped to 560+ with K&N filters. Nuff said.

The 63 AMG N/A motor only has sizable gains w/ECU/TCU on the Factory-Neutered C63 platform, your gulping tuner koolaid by the gallon thinking your pushing 560 BHP
K&N swap is nill, but to give you freebie we'll say they're worth 5 rwhp, now onto an ECU/TCU flash your @ best going to net 15-20 rwhp on SL63 (that's also being quite generous) So again being generous that's solid 25 BHP added not 40+ BHP
Basic rule of thumb is 10hp per car length you'd still loose by a humiliating paint raping 10+ lengths as I was also being kind w/stats on the SL65 1/4 records, there are records by forum members here in bone stk SL65's w/drag rads (to harness the power) running 11.4x @ 124 mph

Let me help you w/some real world exp from tuning/modding cars since I was 15 yrs old (I'm 35 now & gone thru everything from Toyota/Chevy/Ford/MB/Dodge N/A Supercharged & Turbocharged apps I've had majority run on Dyno's before/after mods etc)

The original post was about a choice between a SL65 and a SL63, and most
people have sensibly given a variety of reasons why they would choose one
or the either, then the figure boys come along to try and prove the 65 is faster. Listen WE ALL KNOW THE 65 is faster, so stop trying to prove it!!
The question to discuss is the pro's and con's of each model, not my 65 is
faster than your 63. As I said no one has published any figures for a modified SL 63, yet there are hundreds of times published for modified SL55 and SL65.
Also one minute your saying K&N makes a difference. then you say it doesn't.
IN THE REAL WORLD a customer doesn't walk into a showroom and asks what the drag figures are.
As far as credentials go I started work at 16 in a sports car garage and went
on to race them, my boss held the lap record at most circuits, in the last 40 years I have worked with several racing teams and being to old now to drive sponsor some.
But please return to the op and discuss things other than which is faster, I mentioned about re mapping mine purely because if it was a speed thing you can improve the 63 , and imo it makes a BIG difference.

My S600 is a 2004, expensive to fix, BUT easily the best saloon car there is.
It's very quick, and very quiet and comfortable, you can pick them up for peanuts now, but I wouldn't change it, not even for a new one which I have driven.

I also have a g55 and was debating the g55 or Range Rover Supercharged. I do think the RR is a better daily driver and I owned an 08 with no issues. Being that I also have an s class as my daily driver and the g55 was going to be more of a winter car I went with the G55. But the RR is a great truck. Curious why you want the s600 over an s63 ? I also like the sl63 guys it is a great car. I had a full brabus sl55 a few years ago. But for now my third mercedes is my wife's gl550 which we are very happy with, and my sports car is a new to me 1997 993 Turbo with 3,400 miles. I could see myself picking up an sl63 myself at some point as well. (I really love the sl65 black series but cant justify the price )
Though I love AMG, the one car I do not like AMG on is the S-Class. The S-Class is all about class and luxury, and the sharp lines, big wheels, and exposed exhaust pipes of the S63 and S65 just take that whole image away which is what I love about the S-Class. I will say though that I when I look at the S63 and S65, they are very appealing and good looking, just not the proper S-Class in my opinion.
What S-Class do you own?
As far as the G55, same thing with me, it will be driven in the winter only or rarely in the summer, so it's perfect.
I am going to buy an RR for my wife at one point, perfectly everyday driver for a woman, frankly it definitely leans towards the feminine side in terms of looks. It's a shame because I wanted to maintain all Mercedes for my everyday driver collection, but the Rangey will be added there for my wife, along with a DB9 Volante for her.
