The price you pay

Here in the UK we pay Road Tax based on your engine size and emissions.
An electric is free , a small diesel 100 dollars, my SL63 nearly 700 dollars.
Every year!!

My RTA tax for 2009 was $269.00 + $20 for weight fee = $289.00 not including the license fee.

If I lived 20mi east of here I wouldn't have to pay the RTA.

You pay to play I guess.

In California your passenger vehicle tax is mainly based on the price of the car. The more expensive the car the higher the tax. As your car get older it is taxed less. Have nothing to do with emission, in other words, the older and more polluting vehicles pay less taxes . . . .

I think we get a raw deal in the UK. I think tax should be based on how many miles a year you drive. A Little diesel could drive 25000 miles a year, more pollution, wear and tear on the road, and I might only drive 5000 miles a year.
Still as you say, if you want to play, you pay, very apt!

Here are the results for the Kingdom of Belgium. Also known as 'The Chocolate State'.
For the SL 55 :
21 % sales tax on the price of the vehicle. New or used.
For the first owner : 5000 € = 7000 $ to put it in traffic (registration tax)
Then every year again : Road tax : 2500 € = 3500 $.
Insurance : 700 € = 980 $
And finaly the fuel price : 1,35 €/liter = 1,89 $/liter. (Aprox. 7,56 $ per gallon).

Every time the car is sold the new owner has to pay the 'putitintraffic' tax. As the car grows older, the taxes go down.(slowly) Finaly when the car reaches her 25 th birthday, there is a 'vintage tax' of 125 € = 175 $ a year to pay instead of the full traffic tax.

For the 65 owners it's even worse. But it gets better in the Netherlands.

I think instead of ripping off the public and mismanaging 'our' money, they should try fiscal responsibility and stop spending money that they don't have!

I feel much better now!
