What's wrong with people these days???

I get on the forum today and see that I have a new pm from someone I open it up and it is in regards to my 2004 SL55 AMG which is up for sale. I respond and say that it is still available and this is what I get back

"
I can buy a 2003 sl500 for about $25K from a mercedes dealership.

So yours being a 2004 sl55 has more value but as a buy I would only buy your sl55 if it was in the range of a $25K 2003 sl500.

So my offer for your 2004 sl55 would be $19K.

So if you need $19K its right here waiting for you.
"

Are you serious? I wrote back, with thanks for making me laugh.

LOL, the person probably thinks that "500" being a larger number than "55" is far more superior, not realizing that only the first two digits count for the engine size. People never cease to amaze me in this world .

I too received a very low "offer" for my car. IMHO there is a used car dealer/s monitoring this forum trying to buy good used SL's for a very low price and then reselling them for a very high price.

Why would a dealer waist his or her time searching here when they can easily find a decent priced SL on OVE or on a Manheim auction

My thoughts are-

1. private party reseller
2. not approved to purchase at Mannheim or any other auction
3. known quality and honesty on this board vs. unknown elsewhere

ONCE AGAIN PEOPLE! Whoever is looking to buy an SL55.

Here are the current Manheim auction values for SL55's. Dealers pay these prices + about $600-800 for fee's, cleanup and transportation et. Sometimes they pay more if the car needs ding or tire maintenance. The majority of these cars will not have any sort of warranty either.

These dealers mark their cars on average up 4-8k. Make your offers accordingly.

2004 SL55
lol, I had my SL55 listed at around 50k, assuming I'd end up selling it in the low 40's after negotiations. After having it listed for 2 months, I kind of forgot it was still for sale, then got 2 messages from people saying if I need to sell it "fast", they have $25k waiting for me. Dude, noone is that desperate. Do these people think I'm foreclosing on my car or something?? Must be on crack.

I believe it!!!

My boss has an S550. He calls it S, 5, 5, 0. He tells me it is extremely fast and much quicker than my little SL55 because the 550 is a much bigger engine than the 55.

This may be off topic and maybe a little crazy, but I was considering on getting a dealers license when I retire just to be able to buy my cars at wholesale price from OVE or the Manheim auctions. I never once thought about trying to be an actual dealer. I have studied the program a tad bit and have learned how to read the condition codes/reports and what they exactly mean, furthermore, I learned that certain dealers with reliable credit and good business practices along with a good preceded reputation, can actually hold off on paying for a winning bid for quite some time.
I tried using this crooked dealer to buy my Range Rover last summer named Frank Masika, his dealership is called Towne Auto located in Chesapeake VA, so be ware he is crooked!! Anyway, he tried to screw me over big time. I gave him a check for 45K after I used his user name and password that he gave me to find my Range Rover right, well turns out he lost the freaking truck while lying to me all the while some other dealer bought the perfect Range Rover from underneath his sorry nose. Turns out that the Bast_ _ d floated my money to buy other cars and was hoping that I would be patient enough to wait until he found the car that he thought was reasonably priced for me. Two things he did wrong with me, One he assumed that I was nice and two he never took into account that I already was smart enough to know that he was trying to buy a car for about 38K and telling me that it cost him 45k.
To make an already long story short, I had to reach out and touch this guy not to mention threaten him to give me my money back. Shortly afterwards I just bought a Range Rover off of e-Bay and called it a day. How stupid can one be after giving someone your user name and password to your OVE acct and think that they would not research the site to see the actual cost of a car, but that's what I get for trying to beat the system. By the way he never wanted to allow me in on the auction to see what exactly goes on, that's what made me suspicious, because I know that a dealer can allow a visitor in during the auctions.

"
I was offered a 2005 sl500 for $30K from a legitimate mercedes-benz dealership. Do you want me to forward you the email?
"

Should I educate him a bit or should I just keep playin the game

I will I'm waiting a lil bit so it gts more exciting. Anyways why would someone sell their car lower than it is on TRADE??? Trade in value is also a number that the dealer will buy your car in at.

I told the guy that the dealer was almost 15K higher than his offer and he still acts stupid.

Back in the day I could see people not knowing important information about a vehicle, but today, information is a keystroke away. AMGs are special and AMG owners should be car enthusiasts that understand what it is they own. The R230 is a sexy platform and for people that want those great looks, convertible hard top and reasonable performance, MB made the SL500 and SL550. If you want an AMG, you gota pay the price. At least that is my two cents worth.

The world is full of low balling idiots. Whenever I get a call telling me that there is X car, at X price, I tell them they need to go buy that car. That usually shuts them up, or they follow up with, "But they really like my car". I then tell them that they REALLY need to open their wallet then!
