SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: What the techs do when you're not there...

After that I would
smack the service manager right in the mouth for a lack of situational awareness. The video kinda makes you feel sorry for the Sl owner, maybe some police officer who is a member here could run those tags and notify the owner.

On another note, I didn't know Ferrell's shop got in trouble b/c of an employee's goof?
Yeah it was huge new in the RX7 community. For years he was the man on the easy coast for product development and full on custom rotaries for track or street use. One of his clients wanted to have the first twin turbo lexus Is300 when they first came out so long story short there were alot of sponser and magazine deals standing by and one of Farrells employees took the lex home after work and crashed it into a tree/dwi/seriously injured the passanger.
So most of the terms of the suit were out of court but what i can tell you for a fact is his shop was closed. His product development was closed and he cannot have anything to do with either of those businesses in the State of VA again. His lead tuner Ray reopened the shop a few years later in MD under PFS and as far as i know Peter has nothing to do with it.
Its really a shame but VA legal system is nothing to f*ck with. One employee messes up next thing you know you loose your buisness, house, and entire income stream.
While that video is evidence that mistreatment does happen occasionally, it doesn't happen everywhere, but still gives ALL technicians a bad rap. If a tech drives a car around a half mile square block to check for vibrations or warm up the fluids before he pulls the car in to do a maintenance, that's 2 miles. To verify that it doesn't shake after removing or rotating aftermarket wheels, he goes around again, 2 more. Then he parks the car, and it is washed, maybe another 1/4 to 1/2. Joe Blow service adviser feels he needs to tell the truth this time and tell him that he checked the car himself, another 2 maybe 4. Unfortunately, the miles add up quick, and we, the owners see that. Most techs are car guys, they won't drive someones car any different than they would their own because maybe he bought his wife a new BMW and it's gotta go in for service and he wouldn't want his car thrashed. Sometimes its not even the techs, but porters or carwashers, even the service advisors, that take the cars around the block. I do not condone this kind of activity, and definately do not want to promote it, but there are times where quality control test drives or a trip to the dyno is necessary to give the client peace of mind in their work. I know of a 3800 mile 2008 SL65 about a year ago that was driven 300 miles to diagnose and verify the repair of a misfire that only happened under full load in third gear at 5700 rpm. That client left his car at the dealer, prepared to not take it home until it was perfect. His car was delivered back spotless, with a full tank of gas and a fresh oil change....and a dyno sheet to prove that he still had all of his RENNtech mods on the car.

I for one am very overprotective of my vehicles and when I here these stories I want to strangle these punks.

and im a tech and wear my shrit in my own car..... To be honest it most of the time the porters and car washers that abuse cars.. most techs appreciate cars and treat customers cars better than theres.... You can say this about anyones profession Scumbag lawyers, ambulance chasers, construction , police , doctors.... You can get a bad apple anywhere..
