SL rust issues
i just got word from my dealer that my car has rust in the molding below the rear window and thus humidity is getting into the trunk. their fix is to order the piece which only comes with a new rear window and costs $2350 plus $660 labor. they say this isn't uncommon.
anyone heard of this? has MB recognized this issue?

Fixed the thumb nail for ya.......
When you wash it do you blow the water off or do you simply wipe it down, pull it in the garage and cover it up? Your problem is obviously caused by water sitting in that area. FWIW, I use a leaf blower and blow the water out of those type areas as well as off all the panels/wheels and I've never had a car have rust issue (well, when growing up in MN I did but that was for obvious reasons......). I know that doesn't help much now so good luck with the fix.

but still, i wonder if this is a design issue, cause water shouldn't pool anywhere

Ya know what I am thinking is that your garage does it get extrely humid in there? Is a CC garage? Where are you located? I know that my other home in Florida during the summer the garage gets well up to 100 in there and I have came out in the morning to find my car wet. I do not know where or how it got there either.

Do you have a picture of the rust spot on your car?

I think you could probably ask the design issue question on most cars. There are pockets that hold water and if water is allowed to sit in those areas long enough too many times it will eventually rust. Probably made worse when a car is washed and immediately put in a garage under of cover?
