Actually, I think he may be right. I'm pretty sure the only way to remove the trim on the doors is to pull out the panel itself. As for the center console, that might be the case also.

For what it's worth, I can't do it mysylf, but I have seen it being done on my cars. Twice.

The door panels have to come of, since the wood is attached from the inside with metal "locking rings" sort of...
As for the center console, it does NOT have to be totally removed. Just the sides towards the carpet. One on each side.
And the wood have to be lifted at the back end first!
The gear ***, you just pull the leather over it's head. That reveals the twist mechanism underneath the ***.

The first time this can take a while, but the second time (once you know the drill) it takes about 30 minutes to remove it all,
and 30 minutes to get it back in...

Good luck to you.

Those locking rings for the door trim are PITA to remove. I bent a few when I took mine off for CF wrapping. Center console is pretty easy tho.

Looks pretty good in person. Kind of like the new BMW carbon cloth.

Yeah i agree that does look good, what CF wrap did you buy to do that & does it come in a darker colour ?.

Cost & procedure ?.

Id also like to know if you did the steering wheel & gear shifter as i have the spec option for wood & leather on both.

Thanks

Carl

I used the 3M CF wrap that I got from another forum. Quite a few sponsors here are selling the wraps, too. It looks darker in person actually, and matches my black/grey interior pretty well. Wrapping on hard parts is pretty easy, but I don't know how to wrap the soft parts like the steering wheel and shifter. I asked DCT motors if they can do the steering wheel and shifter to matte CF to match the parts I wrapped but they haven't got back to me on it.

center console removal is not too difficult!
the spiderweb-like cables are the headache ...but overall, it is 2stars out of 5 as difficulty level for a handy man.
click here for a good reference!

SL R230 center console removal

We are also selling the 4 pieces REAL CARBON interior set for $1250 (+shipping) with core exchange now!
3M wrap is another solution, but we have many core returned already have 3M wrap on it, I assume the R230 owners who wanted carbon look would try the wrap first, but in the end, the 3M don't really give you the sleek look of real carbon!

So, $1,250 + shipping for the real deal or $50 for the DI-NOC 3M Carbon wrap....

Here is my car with the DI-NOC. It's not cheesy at all. It looks like it came from the factory that way. Unless you knew about dinoc you wouldn't know it was a wrap.

It took me forever to do. It WAS a PITA. I am very meticulous though. It HAS to be perfect. It took me maybe 6 hours from start to finish with a bunch of breaks thrown in and friends coming over....

It was my first time though. I could do it now without breaks in maybe 3 hours but that would be pushing it.

When I did my 350z it took me a long time, too. I finished my SL in 3 hours.
