SL66 at the Texas Mile

ha ha I met a forum user at the Texas Mile. Moniker on the car was "AMG 66". He was just joking. But his car did 193 mph. Got busted the first time for going that fast without the appropriate equipment for doing over 190 (6 point roll bar, 5 point harness, etc). They wouldn't even give him the official time slip, but he took a picture of it. He did like 188 or 189 the second time. I heard him let off, so he would be able to run again. MY statement to him "Glad you didn't get busted for going over the limit the second time". This time was confirmed by the announcer and the official speed display. Sorry, I didn't get a picture of it.

Nice meeting you. I will try and get my 600 up to that kind of speed.

Only SL I have known to go over 190+ is named "soulsearcher" in this forum. yeah his SL is a monster, has over 1000 HP...

Good meeting u also. U missed the 3rd run...198 (197.7) mph followed by the kiss of death from the race director....as in getting the boot.

Stay tuned...what u saw was just a few shake down runs to help us figure out if we r on track. The car is getting some more "tweeking" as we speak.

soulsearcher I am also curious as to what is up with the SL66 badge? Any particular meaning behind it?

I'm guesing he's adding some tongue n cheek, since he's putting dwn 1000 rwhp around 1300 BHP it's just a tad bit faster than SL65 or SL65 blk series So dub it SL66 AMG

I think it would've been more suiting as SL1000 JC! You need to personalize your DMV plates, front runners "1300 BHP" or "1000 RWP" DooooEEEeeeetttt

I'm fully aware of this Marcus, Though does it really matter what he badges it @ this stage of power under the hood? 1000 rwp is easily capable of high 9's @ 140 mph dwn 1320' wouldn't you agree...

it *should* be however you can't estimate what a car will do in any track environment be it 1/4 mile, road course or whatever. There are TOO MANY FACTORS. Driver, gearing, cooling, track conditions, tire size and grip, technical malfunctions etc...etc... just to name a few.

The car needs to be run and make the mark...it's the only way. If mathematical calculative theory was the basis of any concrete figures in motorsport we'd all be running 9's and 10's ...this is the same logic as when someone adds up all the hp claims of each individual mod he has and then says his car *should* be running x based on that ...but he puts it on a dyno and is shocked to find out his car runs y instead of x where x > y by a significant margin.

I realize all the variables involved Just a good guesstimate given the rwhp figures/4370 lb curb weight, if good DA/low temps/proper drag setup etc.. there's no reason it wouldn't be in the range above...

You realize that was ONLY a few shakedown passes @ 21 psi? It can easily be pushed to 26/27 or even 30psi, 200+ mph in Standing Mile is no joke, the Bugatti Veyron hits it in 203-204 mph I believe w/1001 crank HP @ 4200lbs

no doubt...I'm not sayin it shouldn't I agree it should...just want to see it done with that car...to make it official. Too many people guestimate based on figures these days and I've never really done things that way...I've seen cars with gobs of power on a track qualify with worse lap times then cars that were lesser machines and driven better or maybe had better prep or luck, who knows. That's the fun in racing be it drag strip or road course. Soulsearcher is a true enthusiast and his project is an inspiration to a lot of us, myself included...I just want to see that car go 9's because that would be so fantastic!!!!

Well I am assuming soulsearcher is doing it tongue-in-cheek as you had said... and putting SL66 isn't posing, as no such model exists... I asked him because I thought maybe it was at one time SL666 (which would kind of go with his name soulsearcher?)

To your statement - I don't agree that we can make fun of low horsepower cars that rebadge their cars as something they are not but once you make 1000hp you can put whatever badge on it you want. It's like putting a pricetag on when someone can pose... "That guy bought a $150k car but badged it as a $200k car... he still spent $150k so he can do whatever he wants!"

Poor taste is poor taste, IMO.

Have 3 buddies that have stock SL65s. Just to one up them (tongue n cheek), I thought why dont I be a little cheesy...we all had a good laugh and I left it on.

Sunir, your dead on....I'll add to that and say that in my limited experience, ET seems to vary widely given the two cars with the same specs but speed seems to be directly related to Hp and weight, regardless of how well you stick the launch....I'm not a pro at the 1/4 but thats what I have observed.

You will not see great times but I think you will see 140+. Give me a month or so.
