OK so i have this friend, who used to live in CT, and now lives in LA. He is a single guy who loves speed, power and all of that nonsense

He currently drives an 04 Nissan 350z, which is paid off and he is looking for a new ride.

he is looking to spend around 35k all in.

Immediately i say 03 SL55 with less that 60k miles on it.

1. he chuckles and tells me im crazy, didnt think you could get an sl55 in the price range. Pickins are slim but they are out there ...

2. his next argument -- its too big and tough to park, that is just bull ****. i tell him

3. rd arguement -- repairs will be wayyyy to expensive, my reply Chrysler Factory plan 4 year unlimited miles as long as you have less than 60 k on it when you apply for the warranty. i proceed to send him links and show him receipts for bills they have covered in the short time ive owned my e55.

4th arguement - the killah - he send me this article

http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/co...xster_s_page_9

i wanted to kill him, for the first time since he had a modded to christ dodge stealth in high school, he could have a car with some real power and some seXXX factor, he tells me he wants a boxster S. he compared it to my 996tt --- made me sick!!!

i freaked -- started quoting Ralphie from the sopranos

Ralph- Anthony (AJ tonys son). I ever tell you about the time I had a Harley?

AJ- Whoa, cool.

Ralph- '74 Shovelhead. I could blow off Porsches on that thing.

Matt (AJs pal)- Not my dad's Boxster.

Ralph- What's your name?

Matt- Matt.

Ralph - Matt, no offense, but your dad's Boxster is a Porsche with panties.

He knows what I'm saying.

I mean, that's for the Hamptons, the Boxster.

I'm talking Turbo Carrera.

One time, I'm alongside this Turbo with doctor plates. We come off the line, he's got this big Jew grin.

You're not Jewish are you?

Matt- Half.

Ralph- Anyway, he knows it's all in fun.

At the Passaic Avenueand New Dutch Lane intersection... we're doing 110. Boom! Right through the light.

He wasn't grinning then, boy. I look back. He's white as false teeth.

5th and final argument, my buddy is saying the SL is a dime a dozen in LA, and the boxster will get more looks -- that is just BS, this guy loves picking up 35+ yr old divorces ... if that is your target market the SL is king i tell him

anyway

Please help me convince my pal to get SL55 over the BOXTER

thanks for your time

BOXTER = BOXSTER

Have him drive both.

They are two totally different cars. The driving experience is day and night between the two.

SL = a little feminine with the top down
Porsche Boxster = A LOT feminine all the time.

Have him drive a cayman as well. That is more of a mans Boxster. It's still feminine though. IMHO

Boxster is definitely a feminine car. He'll get way more looks and stares behind the wheel of an SL.

as a daily SL is definately the choice, yep most folks will say "is that your wife's car" bout the Porsche, however..It is a great car , perfect balance and outstanding fun to drive.

Hell I pulled ladies in my Fiat Strada and Renault Alliance , haha

I was told that the Boxter was designed for women, in the UK there are
loads, mostly driven by women.
In fact I know a married couple, he drives a 911, she drives a boxter.

There is a memeber GFEAR selling his Red SL55 on here for around 35K with a warranty that is a deal for what the car is. Tell your friend that is the way to go.

agreed GFEAR's car is very nice...if I didn't have an SL55 I'd have a cashiers check over to him right away...

I say NOPE! This guy deserves to be in a BOXTER, prolly sits down to ****... (I bet the real arguement is in his actual amount to be spent, a similar mileaged 2003 Boxter w/50-60k miles will sell for $14k -$20k max)

boxster is a far better sports car.

anyone who calls it a girl car or a porsche panties is ignorant about cars.

The overall driving experience of a 6 speed boxster S makes an SL feel like a truck.

um what?

So how is a german engineered, mid engined, flat six (with 258bhp/230lb ft) Porsche similar to a japanese front engined 4 cylinder miata?

If you mean both handle way better than an SL, well thats correct.

Then again, saying a mustang GT500 is similar to an Sl55 is probably more true.

SL55 is heavy and has a sit of push in the corners for sure on entry and mid corner, however it's not attrocious...I've driven worse on a track/circuit. The boxter is fine, it just has minimal power, it's a momentun car...comparing an SL55 to a Boster does not make sense they are in two very different groups of cars, not an apples to apples comparison. In terms of handling, the GT3 RS trumps most out there as a road going version of Porsche's venerable supercup car...a blast to drive on the circuit, a student of mine had the new 997 at VIR and the car was well sorted with tremendous feedback in factory trim.

agreed, but I wouldn't call a 258bhp/2910lb car a momentum car.

A 150bhp 911T, yeah, boxster S? nope.

not comparing car stats, just actual car appeal to me, I would desire to drive and own a boxter about as much as I would a miata. Again just my opinion, to each his own. I would surmise 99% of ladies would rather ride in an sl55 with meat and muscle than a little zinger boxter that sounds more like a VW bug. Most females I know anyway

who cares what females would rather ride in? I don't buy my cars to please some woman. Furthermore, given that they are both highly respected luxury car makers, I bet 99% of women couldn't care one bit about how much horsepower each car has.

The only people who don't like boxsters are those that haven't driven them or who are too insecure to drive a great car because some ignorant people consider them "girl cars".

pathetic.

ahhhh, I dont either its more a response to original owner of this thread, if you read it all the way throught he thinks his buddy who likes to pick up 35+ divorces is moving to L.A and he thinks he should go with a SL over Boxter and I agree. You would think you drive a Boxter the way you are so defending it, I dont care, I agree with several others commentin throughtout this thread a boxter is a girl car, 8 out of 10 of them you see on road are driven by woman. done commenting was just bored at work

Only 15% of boxster buyers are women.

oh and if he's only into picking up chicks, he could probably get a 996 cabriolet for $35k.

I dunno the boxter and cayman are good balanced cars...but there's no substitute to the 911 GT3, GT2, or TT. Those are fantastic!

On a side note a car guy buddy of mine whose a long time porsche guy himself called the cayman a gayman as it's jokingly called in the sports car circles haha lol ....he was just kidding around of course - the cayman and cayman S are excellent track cars; just thought it was funny

I don't know....porsche seems to be deviating from the epic and iconic 911 platform going wayward frequently ...first the boxter (slight deviation) followed by the Cayenne (wtf??) ...and now the Panemera (Yikes!)...I just don't know what to say anymore Time and economy are making even the truly sport oriented makers change...what next Ferrari SUV?

Porsche – exclusive and unrelentingly sporty – concedes it doesn't create cars for women. The gender of buyers does not arise in model planning.

"Porsche builds sports cars," says marketing boss Michael Bartsch, "and the genetic make-up of a sports car is no different whether it is for a male or female driver. Women who buy our cars buy them for the same attributes as men.

"They are women who are competing successfully in the tough business world, on equal terms. Accordingly, they buy their cars on equal terms. The reality is, that if we marketed Porsches as women's cars, the women we were targeting wouldn't buy them."

Sports car values and "traditional male values" go hand in hand, Bartsch says, so advertising often appears male-oriented. Rather than pitch Porsche's advertising at males, campaigns (and indeed the vehicle design itself) are directed at the sporty/aspirational types.

Women buyers, presumably sporty, aspirational and with plenty of disposable income, account for 15 percent of new Porsche Boxster sales.

Now here is a chick car.
