Widest tires for sl55?
I am looking around for new rims and tires, my question is what is the biggest size of tires I could use? I am interested in 19" rims with a deep dish, do you guys have any suggestions? My car is black, I was thinking 5 split spoke with silver ring(dish)

I have a set of Zauber Gettins for sale her in the clasified section. They are 9x19 and 10x 19 with 255x35 and 305x25 Pirelli Rosos. Make an offer I wnt to put CLK63 black series wheels on my SL.
These wheels look like Lorinser LM5 wheels, but you can have mine for $$$$$ less.

Question on running 255/35-20 in the front on SLs. Same question to Taranda and Aluthman.
How did you guys manage to fit 255/35-20 in the front on SL without its top touching/rubbing on control arm's bolt? I'm running original Michelin Pilot Sport in 255/35-20 (I think its exactly 27" diameter, as most if not all tires in that size are, some are 27.1"). While car is parked I can clearly see tire touching that bolt - there is no clearance even to insert a piece of paper between them. While driving (even though I do not feel it) that bolt managed to create an extra groove in the tire in the place where it touches it. Any insides are greatly appreciated.

As the suspension gets loaded, the top of the tire will go in. Typically that's sufficient to clear it even when the car is dropped... In your case, I suspect that the offset of the wheel is wrong, thereby taking the wheel off center...I know that a 35mm offset would clear. Check your wheels; offset and let us know. I'm sure you'll get some feedback from others on what works, and what does not.
But...my offset was 35mm (now its 25mm by using 10mm spacer) and it was even worse.
It almost sounds like the key here is to use non-directional tire like PS2 vs original Pilot Sport (which is directional and has no grooves except dead center) or even a directional tire but with grooves (like Hankooks pictured above) so that bolt lines up with one of the grooves. Of course one must make sure that tire's groove groove and the bolt are lining up exactly, but I suppose it can be achived by "moving" offset with spacers. What tires are you using?

I think you are trying to do something that is nothing but trouble. Trying to go too big. And youre on your own. 305/25/20 rear is drivable, barely.
