SL55 won't start after driving it hard

whenever i do some hard highway driving and turn the car off, if i try to turn it on again, it acts as if there's not enough juice in the battery. it will jump start though. also it starts fine on its' own after about a 40 minute "cool down". during my drive this a.m. the temp gauge read normal and the intake temp was between 125*F-145*F depending on how hard i was pushing.

dealer checked but said he couldn't find anything wrong. I've already replaced both batteries.

i'm stumped and going nuts

any ideas peeps?

possible your intake temp too high.. open or short circuit at times..

possible your coolant pump or you supercharger pump is not cooling the system down enough.. already check cooling system? any leaks any air?

if your coolant temp reach high out of limit range your computer won't let you start the car until it cool down..

do you have any code store? check it even though your engine light is not on.. it could have temporary code..because only hard code will set the light on right away..

no leaks.

what's the acceptable intake temp range?

didn't think it was a bad pump as i didn't lose any power and got no other warnings. could be though

don't think it's the computer b/c it tries to start but act like it doesn't have the juice. then, hook up jumper cables and she fires right up.

not sure about the codes. have to check

some of the info you say could be wrong and w/o looking at the car its hard to come to any conclusion...

NikleinR6 say replacing parts w/o confirm its bad..might as well throw money away..lol

instead going to dealer find any other independent benz shop have them diagnose it see if they can find anything...

goodluck

Hold on a min.... I never said to start replacing parts without confirming they are bad...In his 1st post, he said he had both batteries replaced... I had these same problems and I replaced my starter battery and all is well now... If I were the OP I would go back to the dealer, independent mech, or even Advanced auto and have them check the starter battery.. if it is faulty, you battery is warranted for 24 months...

This sounds like a 'hot start' issue that I have had with my Ferrari's, and the fix was adding a relay in the system between the battery and the starter. BAP imported parts has a 'hot start' fix kit.

Along the lines of what Dino said, I would wonder if your battery or starter motor suffers from a heat-soak issue. Batteries (and usually high-amp motors) suffer badly when heated up too much. Have you tried to touch your battery after driving hard? It should not be far too painful to touch. Or at least check the voltage coming from it when it is hot. Efficiency degrades as the battery heats up -- I suffered a similar problem on an old Crown Vic I had back in the day. Didn't clear up till I bought a new battery. The old battery was only a year old, but it was gone.

A good concept to remember... Cold weakens a battery, heat reveals their true condition...

BTW. Haven't had a single problem since replacing my starter battery. Cranks right up every time

problem fixed...hopefully

well we replaced both batteries today for OEM ones and then cleared the bunch of error codes that had accumulated due to low voltage.

btw, yes, this was at my garage. the MB tech is a new buddy of mine

will do a proper shakedown tomorrow
