2006 SL55 with 030 Performance Package
All 3 AMG you talk about are great, But if I had a G55 AMG the only one to complement the G would be the SL55 AMG roadster it has the biggest contrast to the G Class.
The SL55 with the vario roof is hard to beat. Hard top coupe one minute, top down roadster 15 seconds later!
If you need to transport more than 2 people than the CL55 AMG is great, if you need to transport 4 or 5 people all the time the S55 is the best of the 3.
The SL55 AMG is the sexy of the 3, and MBs version of a sports car.
As good as the CL55 AMG is the top just does not come down, and that makes the SL55 AMG in class of its own.
Get the SL55 AMG, you will thank me when you get it!

2003 SL55 AMG ( 2600 Miles, It was fantastic on the track)
2000 ML 430 (I wish it was a G55AMG)

Since you hav the G55- u have got a wonderful "people carrier", hence you need a great grand tourer to compliment it - you cannot go wrong with the SL55. The S55 would be a bit unnecessary, and the CL55 does not give you the option of driving topless on those wonderful sunny days...

I do think Mercedes is in danger of over-cooking the AMG brand. What started out as a tuning arm - a bit like BMW's M-Power - is now applied to every car and not necessarily for the better.
I think the V12 suits the S and CL better than the AMG V8 because the V12 is more aligned with what these cars are trying to be. The CL is not a sports car by any stretch of the imagination, instead it's a luxury GT and the AMG V8 is at odds with that and the S55 AMG seems even more bizarre.
With the SL, both the AMG V8 and V12 solutions work because the SL is a cross-over car which can be viewed as a luxury GT on the one hand, and more extrovert sports car on the other, even if it's not in the 911T and 360M league.
I'm biased of course but the SL55 AMG is for me as near perfect a balance between sports car and luxury GT I can imagine.

G55 should be G65, and many of the things like as you said, CL and S should be uppered to S65 and CL65, and they should eliminate the V8 versions of those.

I too would say the SL55 is the cream of the crop! It's my fave or the bunch by far. However, amongst comparing these 3 cars, they must compliment your lifestyle. Look at your needs. Do you need another troop carrier? Do you need a backseat? Can you live with only 2 seats and a convertible? If your needs allow it, go SL. If you must compromise with something else, I would say CL is the second best.

I was considering the CL55 instead the SL55, but after sitting in the CL55 and driving it around, feels like a big car, and I seldom carry anybody with me. So I'd stay with the SL55.
