Wheres the build taking place? Im in for PBIR but I think i'll leave the SL home not a fan of being raped so... having a new turbo installed on my GN and tune.. mid to low 10's seems reasonable.. :-)

How are you dealing with all of the ECU, TCU, and other electronics?

I thought that all of the electrical components (ECU, TCU ETC) communicated through the can bus system using the vehicle chassis number...

I was told swapping and engine was not possible and required all of the electrical components to be linked to the same car/engine etc...

Are having custom software designed or are you able to use the SL55 engine ECU?

My understanding is that the crossfire is in an SLK or SL chasis and uses the same CAN bus system as mercedes...thats why it would be a fix without all the headaches, there still needs to be some changes but it will work. I think Rcompart (rudy) has another swap running around, I think this one belongs to one of the guys over at Speedriven if not mistaken.

+1. Crossfire is based on the R170 SLK, if I recall things correctly. A much easier engine swap than, say, putting a 55K into a Pinto.

My car is #3,third one completed this year, also he is putting a 55 supercharged engine into a c32 and not sure what car but it is a mercedes 4 wheel drive,, Rudy has mastered all the electronics, and made every thing work just like factory.in fact he also set the throttle on a progressivemode so that it takes 3/4 of a second from the time i floor it to wot. this way i will not spin that much and not brake anything. My car will be returned to me at the end of Jan.,, after a few miles to get use to it i will see you at PBIR I will post when i am going, jim

I was just informed the the next to receive a e55 may be a 05 c240 ,, and if not a e55 then a c32 amg V6 boy the things that can be done once you learn the computer system, and how to change it. I think this guy Rudy is the only person that knows how to rework the ecu system to make even a std shift transmission fit where there use to be an auto. jim

Sorry to hijack..

Rudy is a master! and I take nothing from him...but around my neck of the woods there is a guy named jeffrey who did this one for me. She has been upgraded with precision turbos and is complete in 2 weeks.

Moving her out of the Drive way...

I don't know how Rudy does it but when you plug into the OBDII port it shows crossfire V8 here is a quote from someone that has inspection,,

"I have already done my first state inspection with the V8 and had no problem. They hooked up to the OBDII port and it read 2004 Chrysler Crossfire, 5.0 8cyl. and then it ran the normal test and all passed." so what ever he is doing it works. jim

You're gonna have to change the emblems to "SRT-8" now.

here is the latest update,,,,a lot, well most of you know i am getting a 5.5 amg v8 motor and tranny installed into my black crossfire srt6.. here are some of the details,
I contracted with Rudy and Paul of accelerated industries to do the trun key operation,( transplant)
I shipped my car to Wi in Dacember 2010
Paul had a hard time finding me the engine i want,, he found it and he will get it for me in the middle of Jam 2011
the rear (wavetrac) i am hoping is done before the car is finished so Paul and Rudy can install it.
I contacted patrick( pte), and had him build me a 180 therostat for the 5.5 v8, and he is shipping it to Rudy today
Rudy is working on the lettering for the rear deck of the car.
the intake maniflods, and the intake will be teflon coated black the valve covers will be silver.
Rudy has some peformance parts that he will install,, like pully tune, some exhaust tricks so i can use some the srt6 exhaust.
I also purchased the wheels and tires from Rudy's srt6 before he sold it.
i have two sets of drag radials to use ,,313 35 17 and or 255 50 16 will test them both the best for the ve i keep as both with the 6 got me 12.20 ET.
now we wait!

Very interesting project! I always thought the SL55 would be brilliant if it was a thousand pounds lighter.

How much heavier than the standard engine is the 55 engine? For all the power you will get, it may throw the car's balance off for anything other than straight line speed.
