Next Mod...a big one

May not happen until late 2011 early 2012, but I'm in discussions with TC Concepts for their BS conversion. I got these from them. Thought I would share. They say its Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CRP).

What was it about the TC Concepts kit, that made you choose it over the Misha kit?

I don't like the super hero look of the Misha Kit. Not a slam on Misha, beautiful builds on the forum just not my style. I want it to look as close to a BS 65 as possible. I love the look of the OEM BS. The Misha design looks like a kit. TC Concepts looks as close to stock as anyone has gotten at this point.

Host the pic on a third parts pic hosting site (if you need a throw away hosting site, try www.tinypic.com ) Then use the VBulletin code to embedd the pic. Looks like this:

Please do.
After clicking the first pic I needed to re-start my PC to avoid a potential virus threat.

I really liked their kit too. I have heard misha does incredible work, but the TC kit would be more in line with the look I would want to achieve.

To date TCC has done 3 conversions themselves and shipped 4 kits to other countries. Nice folks. Its a carbon fiber reinforced fiberglass kit. Whatever that means? I know there are some bodywork experts on the forum. Can anyone comment on quality? TCC says its up to TUV specs.

Don't know...never asked about Misha 'cause it wasn't a viable option. I've heard it's less.

that car and those wheels is incredible, if budget wasn't a concern, I would be all over that.

This looks similar to the Prior Designs kit from the ACG thread ....so many kit options out there nowadays ...looks like eidebody SL's are going to be popping up moreso than we thought!

It's good to see that they use a whole quarter panel replacement rather than fender flares.

Incorrect, ALL the kits use a full 1/4 replacement panel for fronts ONLY but the rears are manually cut out, then fender flares are bonded to the larger opening on the freshly cut out rear 1/4 panels... Reason being, the entire stock rear 1/4 panels are actually welded to the frame @ factory...

Tis very true One big reason I am very hesitant about actually doing this orvany conversion.

I used to think the same, until I saw the other conversions & found out they completely prep & repaint the freshly cut metal (so no future corrosion etc)

I also like the TC concepts build, though 1 thing missing is the new rear deck spoiler isn't aggressive like the OEM SL65 blk ser..

I think you infinitely know more than I do about these things. In talking to three body and restoration shops that deal with exotics, they were all very skeptical of the life span of bonding two unlike substances together, i.e. aluminum or steel, and CRP/CRF. They said sure it can be done but what's the life span with out seams starting to show, etc... I guess buyer beware. Makes me nervous. I know if it were only for a show car, no issues, but to drive on a regular basis...IDK. It's not like I'd be getting an aerodynamic advantage. Most things I've read is that the SL65 BS is a brick in the wind tunnel...that being said it sure is purrrrteeeeey.

I probably wouldn't do one as the temperature in the summer hits 110 and winter can hit 20 below and these materials wont expand/contract the same rates and over time something is likely going to have to give.....but I am by no means a body guy, so I might be wrong
